do the sport brake pads make a lot of dust?

Since I haven't gotten my car yet and will be doing some mods when it comes in, will I need to switch to a low dust pad for the street? (I always switch pads for track days)

RCZ 06-05-2009 11:43 AM

What?

no the stock sport package brake pads are not dusty.

Mike 06-05-2009 11:52 AM

thanks, I figured not since I didn't read any threads with complaints, but wanted to be sure.

no complaints here.

Ceramic

After 1K miles I do not believe that they are as bad as the OEM's on my old 03. But they still make more dust than the Ceramic's I put on
:tiphat:

Mike...These things are almost dust free.... No issues whatsoever

semtex 06-05-2009 08:38 PM

You know, it's funny. I was actually staring at my front wheels this morning thinking that it was freaky how clean they are, considering I haven't washed my car in 3 weeks. I am absolutely amazed at how little brake dust there is. I'm so used to brake dust that I feel like it's wrong for my wheels to be so dust free, like the laws of physics have been violated or something. lol

I too am amazed at how dust free these pads are. My 05 STi went through stock, Ferodo DS2500's and PFC-01's...and all of them were dusty as hell. 370Z seems to not have much brake dust at all.

Mike 06-05-2009 09:05 PM

excellent! Then that being said, how are they for track days? dust free and good for the track usually don't coexist.

ChrisSlicks 06-06-2009 09:07 AM

There is a built in protection mechanism for the brakes, when they start to get too hot the engine will go into limp mode to slow you down. :rofl2:

If you do have an oil cooler installed then you will get to experience fade in the stock pads. Track pads are necessary and will dust a lot, but on the upside they are pretty easy to swap in and out.

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised that the sport brakes don't dirty up the wheels in a few days like some cars.. I can go 2 weeks without a wash and the wheels look really good still under a lot of stop and go driving.

Agreed, after a few days of city driving,it just need a wet cloth,& the dust went off,my last car a Rover75,which uses brakes from BMW,give alot of dust, even after 20 km of city driving, the front wheel always covered in brake dust.

DIGItonium 06-06-2009 03:57 PM

I don't track my car. The stock Sport brake pads are barely dusty compared to the stock pads in my '03 Enthusiast 350Z (wheels turn gunmetal after a week!).

spearfish25 06-06-2009 11:05 PM

Even after a day at an HPDE, the front rims looked incredibly clean. I too am amazed at how little dust these pads produce.

tzgq2m 08-01-2009 11:39 AM

my sport brake pads make an absolute mess... i've only had the car 7 days and have had to clean off a heavy coating of brake dust twice on all 4 rims. I've only used 1 tank of gas.

I came looking for a thread about this to see if other people were complaining. If this keeps up, I guess I'll need ceramic for my driving style...

Mike 08-01-2009 04:44 PM

since posting, I have almost 700 miles and find them quite dustless.

Ditto - very little dust with mine and I don't baby them either.... I do wash the rims every week though. I've got just over 3000 miles on mine.
