Stoptech brake rotors

Got my Stoptech front slotted rotors today. You can really appreciate just how damn big the rotors on our cars are once you are holding them in your hands ... just massive. The Stoptech rotors are crazy heavy @ 29 pounds, I've got to imagine that the stock ones weight about the same. Looks like 2-piece will definitely be the way to go long term to save on unsprung weight.

I'll be installing these on Saturday so I'll have some pics and more accurate weight measurements then.

Cool Chris, congrats! Which ones did you get, and from where? Good service?

molamann 05-28-2009 08:14 PM

Selling your old rotors anytime soon? :D

They are the Stoptech direct replacement rotors ordered from Concept-Z. The only real difference from stock is that they are slotted, and I'm hoping that they hold up to heat a little better than stock.

Have to say the service from Concept Z was outstanding. They were right on top of the order and had it shipped out same day.

Nice, thanks for the quick review of their service.

Did you have problems with the stock rotors?

ChrisSlicks 05-28-2009 08:53 PM

I'm having an issue with the brakes seemingly related to heat during auto-cross events. The problem usually surfaces after about 2-3 runs once the brakes have managed to build up some heat. I can't confirm that the rotors are the issue, it could also be a sensor malfunction related to the electronic brake force distribution, but the rotors were the easiest thing to try first. RCZ had a similar situation on the track.

Yep, now I remember, thanks!

RCZ 05-28-2009 09:05 PM

Cool, can't wait to see if they perform well on the track.

I have the slotted and drilled Stoptechs, yes they are heavy, but hopefully that means strong and durable :-) I will definitely upgrade to a 2 piece when the time comes, saving a little rotating mass here with definitely help improve acceleration and suspension performance. Lighter wheels and lighter rotors can make a big difference.

I had no idea they were so heavy. I wonder what the base rotors weigh in at.
