Screeching!

Hey everybody!

Ok so im gonna get right to the point, my brakes are screeching like hell and Im not even braking:confused:.

It happens at low speeds and I have not a clue how to correct this. Anyone?

How many miles are on the car?

Have you checked to see the condition of the rotors and how much (if any) pad material you have left?

kenchan 01-24-2012 01:58 PM

wear indicator?

Yeah, I'm betting the pads are pretty bare.

I heard a screeching noise at low speed When I left work one day and I took it straight to the shop bc it scared me! One of the rotor protecter things came
off and was spinning against the wheel/rotor.

kenchan 01-24-2012 02:26 PM

huh, the cover came off huh? werd. did you kick up something like a branch on the road?

m4a1mustang 01-24-2012 02:27 PM

Must have taken a pretty good hit to knock it off.

kenchan 01-24-2012 02:30 PM

or perhaps a failed stud replacement job for spacers? :ugh2:

Nope, they asked me all that. I drive maybe 10 miles a day and I've never hit anything. The car Is still practicly brand new. Mustve been loose from the get go.

Never hit a curb either....wheels are perfect

Only about 7k. The rotors look fine, but I do know i need new pads asap. But would that be causing the noise even when im not braking? Like its an unbearable noise.

Could be a small tone wedged between pad and rotor, or more likely, between the "stone shield" and the rotor (if that is not an oxymoron).

Unless you are running a really cheap pad you shouldn't need pads after 7k. Something is wrong.

Sounds the same to me...have the dealer check the rotor covers.

Mine was REALLY loud too.

corner3garage 01-25-2012 06:42 PM

Definitely have the dealer check the rotor if the car is still in warranty.
