I agree! Any coil-over will break when hitting something (narrow assembly).
I broke a set of APEX coil-overs 4 cars ago hitting a curb at 60 mph. (don't ask)

Where is Kevin? I'm eagerly awaiting a response! :D

I just picked up a set of these coilovers and should have them installed in a few weeks. I was sure to get the newer side adjustable dampers so I didnt have to worry about the rear access. I will post up a review with plenty of pics when its all setup.

Hey Kev,

Do you have any pics of the inside of your trunk or wherever the rear dampening knobs are? The reason I ask is because mine are on top of the coilovers and the shop that installed mine cut small holes in the plastic covering the rear towers so I could have easy access to the knobs. At first, I didn't think anything of it, but now it's starting to bother me that they cut holes in my car. As soon as I get pics of the install, I will be sure to post them.

Eric

Sorry Eric, I missed your post! I got the most recent version which has the adjustment on the side of the shaft. I just have to jack the car up a bit and reach under the fender to adjust!

What's the highest/lowest I could go with these? Since I have the F.I. Exhaust, I can't go too low, otherwise I will hit my mufflers, if I want could I set it to about 0.7" lower then stock? Is it easy to adjust? I ask cus I never have had to deal with an aftermarket coilover kit.

^ Jon I should be able to help you out with an answer in a couple weeks. I have the coilovers on order and am getting the FI CBE installed on the 29th. I plan on going about 1.25-1.50" lower than stock depending on fitment/clearance. I will take some measurements from the exhaust to the gound when the coilovers are installed for you.

Hi again everyone. I have been to busy to follow the forums.

I have 7,000 miles on my Megan coilovers and haven't had any problems. I've done a few road trips and had to adjust the shocks to softer settings because when I have them at 9 from firmest, it is too harsh for long trips and gives me a headache. Overall, They are great. the spring rates and dampening are pretty much perfect.

The only problems I have with the setup are 1) the rear springs at the highest setting still lower my car by 1.25 inches and 2) nissan didn't design the car to go that low. By the time you get the car low enough that the tire is into the fender well, but still able to see the tire tread, it scrapes on everything.

so on issue #1, I had to match my fronts at 1.25" lower than stock. The fronts can go higher than that, but not the rears. The car looks great at this height, but it scrapes on everything and I would like to go higher. The front cradle and underbody skid panel touch down on hard bumps. On the I405 in San Fernando valley the concrete slab pavement has terrible expansion joints and some of them will cause the cradle to touch down at 70mph. My Stillen exhaust tips touch down on the inclined driveway at my work, so I rarely drive it to work. I would much rather be 1.00" lower than stock.

on issue #2, it ties into issue 1..... Megan needed to make the rears so they will go higher, but Nissan didn't design the fender position quite right. By the time the car has the sporty appearance of the tires just tucked into the fender wells, everything on the car is touching down on the pavement: front cradle on big bumps/potholes, underbody exhaust on the smallest of speedbumps, exhaust tips on inclined driveways, front tires hit the fender liners under heavy cornering loads when you hit mid corner bumps. Its pretty messy. My last car was a C6 Corvette and the suspension is adjustable from the factory. At the lowest setting the tires were tucked into the fender well very nicely, but didn't hit the fender liner. The front airsplitter would scrape, but it is soft and designed to fold under without damage, as opposed to the riveted nisssan one that I've broken twice now. The Borla exhaust I had on the Corvette never touched the pavement. The exhaust under the car would only srcape on pretty good sized speed bumps.... The 370z just wasn't desinged to go low enough to go racing. The Corvette is.

I'm curious how much ground clearance you have. When I measure near the tow hook thing, near the cats I have about 4 inch of ground clearance. I'm not lowered on meagen though. I've only been lowered for a week and have driven highway and driven over many speed bumps. I have about a finger gap all around, with the rears having a bit more.

got a friend with a 240 on megans. he loves them and i enjoy riding in his car. i cant stand people who bash things because of price points

NewYorkJon34 01-24-2010 08:55 AM

It's not the price that's worrying me, it's just that the lowest I could go is about 0.7" because of my exhaust. Plus where I live in Florida, there's plenty of dips in the pavment so if I don't take it slow it usually hits that black plastic front piece. I guess the only option for me is the S-tune suspention, 0.4-0.5" drop.

I've had mine up to stock ride height but I think I some how got a newer
version.
Note: Drove to Savannah this weekend and the highway to Savannah sucks! I did not like how these coilovers handled the bad pavement. The dampening had me and my wife bouncing. She actually got motion sickness. I may sell these cheap just due to the stiffness & dampening. I feel it's more suited for a younger person...

jmlenz 01-24-2010 08:23 PM

Kev > your ride height looks pretty good to me and seems to eliminate the wheel gap, do you have all the clearance issues that Phimosis mentions?

If you sell them cheap, I'll buy them from you. So your saying I could lower the car to about 0.6" lower then stock if I wanted with these coilovers?

G35guy84 01-25-2010 08:36 AM

Does anyone else with these coilovers feel the car rock back and forth immediately upon stopping? Why does it do that?

Rocking is caused by spring bounce, which would indicate that you don't have enough damping dialed in. Turn up the dampers a couple of clicks. Do you know what number they are currently set to?
