Price of getting caliper painted help please

I'm thinking of getting my break calipers painted, what is the average price I should pay per caliper and what is the process because I think this guy is trying to take me for a ride charging me around 200$ per caliper total of 800$ he says it's a very complicated process is he for real or is he trying to take me for a ride? How much should I be paying' btw I don't live in the states I just want to know what u guys are paying there and if 200 per is to much

i paid $100 for all 4 calipers painted..$800 for 4? that's ripped dude

He is ripping you off.
Should be no more than 300-500 for everything based on how he is doing it, powdercoating, paint, etc.

I think he is powder coating it but he said he has to remove the calipers that's why it's a headache either way how much app if he will powder coat and how much for painting it? Pluse he said he uses special heat resistant paint and clear coat

If he is having to remove them also that is labor on him pushes up the price a bit.
800 still seems a bit high even for labor plus powdercoating.

def powder coat it, not paint. Even the high temp paint will chip eventually. Powdercoat will be more durable. You could remove the calipers yourself if you have some mechanical skills. He might be charging you more because of the labor involved in removing and re-installing the calipers which is unstandable. They are fairly easy to remove though, just a couple of bolts and the brake line. I think there is a DIY somewhere here.

Also, its a good idea to change your brake fluid, lines, pads etc. while your at it.

It is extremely high indeed, even if like he says he will remove them can't they be painted without being removed? Or is it best to have them removed?

Remove and powdercoat or just leave them be. You need a very clean and properly prepped surface for paint to adhear properly. That's something time consuming. It might look fine for a month or so, but after that is anyone's guess.

Here's the thread to replace the rotors, but you get the idea.

That guy is charging way too much.

Is all worth 800$ if not how much is it worth max?

Did u have the calipers removed and did u have them painted or powder coated?

JollyGoodChap 07-06-2011 05:42 PM

remove them yourself and that'll save you a good chunk of change I would think

if your even thinking about paying 800 your out of your mind !! i paid 150 for all 4 on mine and they came out perfect and a year later still as good as new go else where and dont look back

Unless he is painting them with unicorn semen that is about double what I've been quoted in the past. :icon17:
