Rotor Rust Ring

Here is a picture (sorry about quality -- it is from a Droid in low light) of one of my StopTech rotors.

Notice the rust ring -- which I am told is normal. Well, normal or not, I have a hard time knowing it's there. Any solutions/suggetstions besides "that's normal"? Thanks and have a great day.

Wow, that looks really yellow. Is that normal for the Stoptech rotors, or maybe just because they are new?

I don't think you can do anything about it really.

wire brush and paint. :)

in my detailing process, i include spraypaint in my arsenal of detailing goodies.. :p

Yep, repaint the centers and don't mask the rotor. First 2-3 times you brake be careful, as the paint is scraping off the rotor, but after that you will have a perfect circle where the rust was.

That is what I figured. Thanks for the helpful advice. :driving:

Ehhhh.. I wouldn't recommend using the paint the rotor let the pads take it off scenario.. unless you had some pads you were ditching..

There's a lot of chemistry going on with bedding pads and rotors together, adding random elements of paint and/or powdercoating is less than ideal..

Josh,

Thanks for the input. Do you have any suggestions? I know it is only cosmetic, but it bothers me.

It's the use of a pad shape from the caliper that doesn't hit the full face of the rotor. We run into that too at times with utilizing the AP Racing components to build brake kits. Doesn't have any effect on the performance of the kit, but can leave a 'ring' of rust if the rotor isn't zinc coated.

I'm not ultimately familiar with Stop Tech's setup here.. aren't they zinc coated to prevent rust? Seems hard to fathom.
