How would you guys feel about a limited edition DorkiDori Coilover setup???
UPDATE: 02-03-11
So after the blunder of a thread yesterday (on zilvia), I decided that I needed to look at how I was going about what was being offered. I talked to Fortune Auto this morning and got some AWESOME news!!! The coilover setup that I will be offering to you guys will be something that Fortune Auto wont be selling for at least 3-6 months from now. Fortune Auto has allowed me to offer you guys their brand new coilover setup that they are currently beta testing. Which means a brand new damper setup, brand new spring rates and brand new oil type. The final version of the damper will be ready by the end of the month!!! I am still awaiting final details but I am being allowed to do this exclusively before the Fortune Auto version becomes available because its such a small run and we both thought it would be an awesome way to get the product out there and to give you guys something really neat via cross branding. I might be running a pre-production set on my own car to test them for Fortune to help give feedback to the new product and to also personally approve the product that is going to be offered thru DorkiDori. All coilovers will be individually numbered and will be offered in a color/design setup that is exclusive to DorkiDori only (Red anodized aluminum, black damper housing, pure white spring). This is NOT going to be some cheap ***, knock-off coilover kit from some no name brand. This will be a genuine Fortune Auto built product that has become a quality name along with the quality of product you also expect from DorkiDori Clothing. Would this be something you guys would be interested in at all??? And let me make this known, these would be produced ONCE and ONLY ONCE!!! heres a photoshopped example of the coilovers i did... http://dorkidori.com/lennon/shirt_id...l_coilvers.jpg |
I'd be interested to see a full up model of these, but the PS cut looks good. I like the colors.

God, I hate you, Chris.

specs for the Z34 coilovers are... • 10kg FRONT | 8kg REAR SPRINGS • Dyno tested • Stainless steel body / piston • 30-way adjustable dampers • Pillowball mounts • Forged aluminum locking collars • Dust boots on all pistons • 50mm piston-57mm piston housing (beyond the industry standard of 44-47mm) • Anodized aluminum camber plates\pillowball plates on upper-mounts • Fully anodized body • 1 year Manufacturer's Warranty • Height adjustment independent of preload • ISO 9002 certification • Brand new specially blended synthetic oil new for 2011 these are a special version of fortune autos coilovers that the owner and i worked up...theyre only going to be produced once...the "new form" coilovers will be out later this year that use the oil and damper size im using for these |
photoshop pic is def. NOT what the actual coilover would look like. correct me if im wrong but thats a mcpherson (sp) strut in your picture and that is something no Z/G uses. also, you listed pillowball mounts and the pic shows them as well, something ive only seen on Ohlin coils for our cars.
im not trying to bash you, i think fortune makes great coils, but i, and probably others, would like to see an ACTUAL set of v36 chassis coilovers. |
coilover pic is meant for color purposes...those coilovers you see in the pics are for a S13/S14
Z34 coilovers come with aluminum pillow ball mounts in front and aluminum upper mount in the rear..fairly standard affair...they DO NOT come with camber plates as you guys have an upper camber arm infront i believe |

How do you wear that again? :icon17:

I'd consider it, but without a whole lot of backing for the specific application it'd be tough to do.
It might be more helpful if you your friend released "normal" coils for the Z first, and you put out a custom version of those..at least, assuming he plans on releasing coils for the Z. People are just usually wary of new stuff, and like to snag stuff after other people have already reviewed it. A limited edition helps pick sales up when they've started to drop off. Not trying to be a downer, just offering my thoughts. |

yes yes i midread, my apologies.
on another note, like others have said, most are wary of new products without any backing. i know in the s13/s14 world there is a lot of support but coils vary from car to car. almost all the lower-mid level coils, mine included (bc br) are pretty similar. diff colors, locking collars, are what changes. some questions, - you say dyno tested, will the dyno test rsults be provided to each owner? - will custom spring rates be available? - if so, say i want a 14k spring (for arguments sake) would the shock be re-valved to match? and if so, would that be shown in the dyno graphs. - will they be available without the fortune springs, im sure some will want swift springs since they are superior to any other spring out there. not trying to bash, once again, its just that so many companies have 1000 dollar range coils for our car and for the most part theyre the same. sure, some look cooler, and your PS chop looks sick, especially with the white springs, but i could take your spec list and almost tack it on a number of other coils and itll work. i love my BC BR coils but i realize they are mid level and they lack in a lot of areas, im already starting to look at a more capable setup. Thanks p.s.- what i meant by pillowball mount is how in the pic you showed the top of the spring does not come in contact with the upper mount. the only coils ive ever seen like that for our cars are the Ohlins. if thats not a pillowball upper mount, apologies, excuse my incorrect terminology |
They would look beautiful on my Red Z. Whats the warranty like?

Where are these made?
Who makes the springs? What makes these coilovers or the Fortune Auto brand better than others? Why would people want a limited edition coilover with different colors? Will these limited edition coilovers have things the other setups (of non-limited edition) will not? There are TONS of coilover kits on the market right now and with all of the other companies claiming this and that, along with all of the cheap China/Taiwan companies, it's hard to tell what is good and what isn't. Any insight? |

not going to argue if theyre better than other coilovers...ive already had this discussion on a few different forums...90% of all major brand coilovers are produced in part or in full in taiwan as it is...just because it says "made in japan" doesnt mean squat...one of the ONLY companies on the market that actually MAKES their coilovers in Japan are TEIN (they have their own inhouse manufacturing capabilities)...im offering people who want a quality product that will be very exclusive something fun to put on their cars (and has been extensively track tested too!!!) fortune auto coilovers are fully rebuildable and can be sent back to the home office here in the states to be rebuilt or overhauled (any company that DOESNT offer this outright for their coilovers isnt worth using)...they are backed by a 1 year warranty (2 years for the ones im going to be offering) |
Dude, these look great! and I am excited to see the details as they unfold!
btw, you need to do a re-release on some of your shirts, i was "away" when you stopped production, and I didn't have access to your site.. from over there :) |
I'll indicate interest - they'll match the 40th color scheme. Estimated price available? Or too soon?

I'm not looking for an argument. I'd like to know what makes the Fortune auto coilovers worth buying? Saying that 90% of all coilovers are made in China/Taiwan is a stretch... I can think of many that have nothing to do with that part of the world. In my opinion, spending more money on a something because it's a different color doesn't justify the costs. Especially when it's something you never see. Also saying that 90% of the coilovers are made in the same places as the others doesn't tell me much.. I'll assume these are produced in the same places as KSport, Megan, D2, BC Racing ect. Just because they can be rebuilt, doesn't mean anything. You can spend less for a coilover made in the same area, that can be rebuilt and replaced as well. Call any coilover manufacturer and ask them if they can rebuild them, most will say yes. If you want to talk track testing... look @ KSport USA - Performance Suspension | Coilovers/Big Brake Kits/Air Suspension/Alignment Parts for Honda, Nissan, Acura, Infiniti, Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Lexus and other Performance Cars.. They have cars that are truly record setting in FWD classes. Please don't take this the wrong way, but calling something limited edition, maybe you should really say what is; a limited edition color. |

the coilover i will be offering to you guys will come with an updated damper and synthetic AMSOIL, SWIFT springs will be available on release as well. basically what it boils down, if you dont feel like buying them, then dont buy them. im done playing the "im going to sit here for hours on end and battle every question thrown at me"...its a product i felt was worth doing some cross branding on and offering to various people when it becomes available...im really not looking to sell a million of them...if i move 10 sets (which is the minimum), ill be completely happy. |
