Dealer Allignment with Aftermarket Suspension
 

So i want to get an allignment done because i just switched from my summer setup (19x9.5 and 19x10.5) to my winter setup on the stock 18s (18x8 and 18x9) and i want to make sure everything is still good. The infiniti dealer my parents have their cars serviced at (and i've gone to a bunch for other cars) is offering 4 wheel laser allignments for 100 instead of 150 until the end of the year. i have BC Racing BR coilovers with an SPC rear camber kit. would there be any issue with them doing an allignment given that i have aftermarket suspension, or should i just go to a place that specializes in that sort of thing. could be a dumb question but i'm just curious

They won't have problems doing the alignment unless your car is too low. I think you should find a shop that specializes in race cars and nice cars because they will be more careful with your car and they will cater to your needs, performance or long tire wear.

yea, i mean, performance motorsport where i had the coilovers installed does allignments for a fair price, but it was just that infiniti had a promotion going on so i was curious. i guess i' should probably just go to perf motorsport and know it will get done right instead of trying to save $50 one time.

Give it a try. Let them have a look at it. They'll tell you if they can get it on the rack or not. You're not out anything but some time if you are to low.

i'm only lowered an inch. so i dont think it will be an issue.

Wow! That price tag is a little excessive. The tire store that I go to sells an unlimited 3 year alignment for around $105.

If you have them do it, you might try to find the instructions of how to adjust your camber kit so they know how to adjust everything properly.

Every dealership has different outlooks on alignment with aftermarket suspension. do you have adjustable arms other than the rear? If not, they may not be able to do much adjustment to benefit you, or at least there is a chance they might not be able to adjust the toe and caster enough to benefit you. Make sure they have a tech who is somewhat knowledgeable with this.

also, make sure their rack is a type that your lowered car can get up on. Many Infiniti dealers use an older style rack that is raised, and the ramps are NOT lowered car friendly at all. Just FYI on this, as it might lead to potential damage that they may not cover etc...

If you can find a GTR certified dealership, that's the best way to go, because you'll get a tech who knows enough about higher end suspensions, and a flush in floor rack for the car to get onto :)

thanks for the tips and advice. yes i would certainly come to you guys if i were in cali. I think i'll go back to performance motorsport. They did my allignment at their dealership (Performance Nissan of Smithtown) and it is a GTR Certified allignment machine. pretty sure my local infniti place isn't. not worth saving 50 bucks to have all the headaches. and i only have adjustable arms on the rears.

The dealerships will differ most likely, but I had mine aligned at my local Nissan (Eibach springs and SPC rear camber/toe) with no issues, I'm about an inch lower too. The tech was cool in this case, and even told me the rears were much easier to get into spec with the extra adjustability.

most times dealers will only offer the coupon discounts for factory cars but give them a try.

i usually dont do alignment checks when i swap wheels/tires unless i have issues with tramlining or loose tail, etc. and need to compensate.
