Sport pkg Brake's Lifespan
To those who have had the Sports PKG brakes and have replaced them, at what mileage did you do it at? (I'm looking to get a consensus the avg that they will last.
I'm a spirited driver and don't have access to be able to just pop the wheel off and see what i have left so thank you for your answers in advance. p.s. what did you replace them with? |
Well this isn't exactly what you're looking for but I have almost 12k on mine and the pads are still about 50%+
I do a lot of pause and go, about 20 miles or more a day. I accelerate quick and stop fast too if it helps |
Spirited driven and 80% frt. and back at 22,000 kms., or about 12,000 mi..
|
I have 11 000 miles on my car (18 000km) and my front pads are gone... I have to mention that I did a couple of track days!
To my surprise the rear pads are still at 70 pourcent. I am still debating to go with Hawk HPS or Carbonteks pads... |
Stock Akebono pad wear is pretty good. I replaced mine around 16k and still had 70+ percent pad life.
Philipp, I ran HPS for a while and thought they were crap. |
im expecting over 25K from mine with some spirited driving.

Ps. Thanks for the feedback on the Hawk pads... |
The Carbotech's don't need a lot of bedding, see here for a guide.

i dont know if it is placibo effect. i have always complainted about the lack of bite from the stock pads. i used to xp10 for the track, which bit too hard for my re11s. i recently switched back to the stock pads, for some reason the pads seem to bite a lot harder.
hps pads are garbage, dont waste your time |

they just dont have much bite, well not as much as i expect for a sports car anway. i am not saying the car doesnt stop, but it can be 10x better

i also bleed the brakes too, so that might be another reason why it felt better (5500 miles)
|
The stock pads had plenty of bite for me for the street (I like progressive). I did bleed my brakes at around the 1000 mile mark as I don't think the factory bleed was all that great.
|
You are probably right on that. My brakes just felt a LOT better after I changed back to the stock pads after I bleed the brakes and removed the XP10 (did 1500 miles on it)
|
On a related note, I had a question. Are the sport pads noisy? I've only got 16k on the car and they're starting to squeel when cold or wet. As they warm up it goes away, so I don't think it's the warning tab but thought I'd ask if it's expected for them to be a bit talkative.
Thanks in advance. :) I'd appreciate a heads up on how to check their wear either way. Not a car noob, but new to the Z. |
Mine never made any noise, I believe they are ceramic?
If you are lazy, grab a small mirror (available for 2.99 at the parts store) and shine it into the rotor. You should be able to see how much pads you have left. You can also take off the wheels to check, honestly it should take less than 10 minutes. |
My stock pads were only really noisy if the car had set for a week or so or it rained. That would go away after a few stops though.
