Upgrade to Nismo Suspension?
Recently picked up a 2010 Sport and had it at the track for the first time last night. Found the suspension a little on the soft side and am trying to figure out what the most cost effective upgrade may be to tighten things up on the road courses. This isn't going to be turned into a full fledge race car so I'm trying to find the best bang for the buck.
Is upgrading from the stock to Nismo suspension even worth doing? |
My stock take-off Nismo springs are up for grabs if you're interested... They will definitely stiffen up your ride and lower it a tad =)

If you want to keep the warranty, go with nismo springs. Springs will give you some added performance (lower center of gravity) but by way of actuall grip, it helps but its only ok IMO. coilovers will give you the aggressive lowered look and give you a great jump in handling. you can adjust the shock/strut to the stiffness and height you prefer on most applications vs springs that give you .7 or 1inches drop etc... personally if your trying to stay cheap right now and not have a "full fledge" race car, i'd do sway bars. Stillen has them at a great price:
Stillen Sway Bar 07+ G35 Sedan/ G37/ Nissan 370Z or you can go with hotchkis but they're a little more. also when getting springs you have to consider wheels sizes and offsets you wants since you cant adjust springs. GL I hope this helps a little with your situation. |
Forgot to mention when you drop the car VIA springs/struts whatever, you have to worry about camber. some coilovers come with the ability to adjust the camber without a camber kit but with springs you will need a camber kit or your tire and ride will suffer. + it looks bad

if you upgrade to nismo suspension, you have to upgrade the whole thing, you need the dampers as well. springs alone are gonna wear out your stock shocks just like aftermarket springs would
|
It might work if you did a full nismo suspension take off & handy in the shop. Otherwise, just save up towards a proper setup that surpasses the Nismo.

having a nismo and i want a set of robispec KW3's.... my S-tune springs are for sale also!!!
|
hope you got tires first

The Nismo suspension does not seem to lower the car at all over Base. But they sure tighten it up and the handling is amazing. Great for the track

seems like the s-tune kit makes the car taller.
wat i'd like to know is when koni's going to release their yellow's for our cars. i think the stock ride height is fine for street, but the dampers need to be tightened up a little more especially near full bump (feels like a sedan). |
Would like to close the gap up a bit under the wheel arches but not too worried about lowering the car for the sake of look. Would much rather have a firmer handling car that I can still manage speed bumps with.

Plan on burning through my stock tires and then am going to mount up R-compounds...
Thanks for all the suggestions, it sounds as though the best choice for a quick, and cheap improvement, may be to do the sways. Is that what I'm hearing? |
I have hotchkis sways and nismo suspension and it handles like it's on rails.
