Fluid and Pad Swap for Street Driven Z?
I did a search for "brake fluid for street" and didn't find the answer I was looking for, so...
I'm considering replacing the brake fluid in my street driven Z to something with a higher boiling point. I was considering 5.1 since it's compatible with what's already in my system and I wouldn't have to worry about any extensive dis-assembly of the lines or flushing to get the job done. Or do you guys suggest something else? I'm also thinking about upgrading the pads to a high-performance street pad. Something that doesn't require track temps, but offers better performance and fade resistance than the stock pads. Something that doesn't eat the rotors or dust like crazy would be nice. Or, do you guys think these mods are overkill on a street driven car? |
do not get 5.1, just get some DOT 4 fluid, they are cheap and readily available.
Carbotech makes nice pads, get the autox pads they have. Stay away from Hawks HP+ as they eat rotors, HPS barely gives you more bite than stock |
I Personally use endless RF-650 fluid for my track cars and all of my street cars still use motul RBF-600. Most customers are happy with the price and performance of motul's rbf

luna- i would do the brake vent port instead in the DIY section.

On fluids, Motul or ATE (super Blue or gold) will improve your boiling point.
Stainless lines will improve the feel, and real metal pedals (get rid of the rubber) will take it to the next step. This combo makes for a very good pedal feel.. My stock pads are perfectly fine for hard street(mountain) running and relatively dust free. |

HPS dont even work when the rotors are wet, they have no initial bite (neither do the stock pads).

for the street, I would just use valvoline synthetic from the auto parts store. Its got a fairly high boiling point, and what I use in all of my customers cars when I do brake swaps.
