Alliance BBK (First Powder-Coated Red)

So I got an e-mail from Blackline Motor-Sports yesterday. I will be the first to have them custom powder-coated red. I like what I see, they are going to compliment the SSR-SP3 wheels very well. Thanks for the pics Mike. :bowrofl:

Hot! Can not wait to see them mounted up.

shabarivas 04-02-2010 01:50 PM

Would have went AP myself for the price... I am assuming you are getting a BBK for show reasons?

JB-370z 04-02-2010 02:45 PM

I am getting them just cause I like them, how about that! :) any probs with that>?

NyCSnEaK 04-03-2010 07:59 AM

Has any of Alliance's BBK been track tested and abused?

JB-370z 04-03-2010 10:52 AM

Me or Bullitt will be the first known to do this I think. I just hope this 14.96" rotor fits in the 19" wheels like they said they would. It looks like its going to be a tight fit.

theDreamer 04-03-2010 10:54 AM

JB, let me know when the brakes & wheel/tires are on so I can come over and see.

bullitt5897 04-04-2010 12:52 AM

ohhh interesting. going to be very hard to compare the brakes 100% accurately between the two without equipment and going off a your guys' reactions and sense, but definitely in for a result! link me up when you make the thread

We ran into some ABS issues on my car and are going to attempt the HD video another time when I make some changes to the car and get it back from GTM. I will say this until ABS "ice mode" kicked in the car was going to stop at around 45-50ft from 60-0 but ended up going 70-80ft due to that 'ice mode". Ben's car stopped a consistent 65-67ft. Brake fad settled in on his car after 3 stops. The alliance took a beating of a full bed in process of 10+ hard 60+mph - 0mph stops and several test runs... I let them cool for 5 mins and then ran them again hard... the brakes didnt fade at all... "ice mode" was pissing me off so much I unhooked the abs and did two stops and now I have a flat spot on my right rear tire lol from it locking up hahaha... I did take it to another surface and the car stopped with out the hint of "ice mode" 60-0 sooo... I think we are going to give it another shot. I know the brakes will stop sub 60ft easy once I overcome the "ice mode" issue.

Caliper looks amazing, and def like it better than the anodized pink they come in. I wish they would have split your caliper though and taken the main six cross bolts out, that way when you put it back together, you still have polished aluminum allen head bolts.

Also, JB, I'm from Houston, and I'm just trying to help a brotha out by saying, your "Location" under your avatar says Housotn. Lol.

OP, here's my question.

Are you going to run the SSR with the BBK? If so, I highly doubt that it'd fit, diameterwise.

Reason being is because the SSR has step lips, thus the inner diameter is going to be smaller than regular 19". These BBK requires 19" wheels to clear, so I'm afraid that you may run into the problem.

I too have the Rotora 15" BBK and when I chose the wheels even with 20" step lip, it won't clear the diameter. :(

I really hope that you prove me wrong, that way I can get a set of 20" step lip wheels for the G35

JB-370z 04-08-2010 01:53 PM

I dont think they will fit either but only time will tell. Might have to get a 14" rotor, I am almost certin I will need 14". I told Mike I would try to fit them first. I dont have templetes to go off so it like playing the guessing game. Looks like I will be waiting longer to get this kit on. Spacers is not what I need it is a smaller rotor that will be needed but I will find out sat.
**********Stay tuned for the verdict

I doubt you'd need spacers but I'm pretty certain you'd have to go with smaller rotors. I know what you mean by going with the guess game & no template. It was a pita for me when choosing wheels to fit my setup. I finally went with Vellano for a full custom setup that's designed for right clearance & max lipage.

I'm anxious for the updates. Keep us posted

Below is a picture of a Z with 370mm Endless rotors which is 14.56656367 inches the rotor I went with is 380mm which is 14.96025458 inches so yes there is no reason why they wont fit 20". I have the same identical specs as the Z in this picture. 1/4 of an inch difference is all I am worried about but it might be enough to not fit but I will be the lab rat on this one. Plus Mike said we could switch out for a 14" rotor as soon as the bracketts are made. Mikes got my back either way so we will find out soon if 1/4 inch is going to kill me or not.:ugh2:

I don't think that's 370mm rotors on that 370Z. Hat style looks like it's a 345/355mm rotor setup.

Here's a pic of my setup with my 20" reverse lip with Rotora 8pot/15"rotor. I have just a tad more than 0.5" Clearance between the caliper and the wheel. When I shopped for Work wheels with step lips, Work USA Confirmed to me that their 20" step lip (of the Schwert SC1) will not clear the diameter as it's a bit smaller than their regular 19" Reverse lip :(

I'm not sure if SSR's barrel design is the same.

Nevertheless, I'm super anxious to see that your setup will work. And it's a great feeling to know that your vendor/sponsor is backing you up.

this was done on purpose. the only complaint we've received about the kits was the screw head bolts, and how they look. they are not polished normally, as they are zinc plated, so they are a 'steel gray' color, and people always complained about that detracting from the look of the kits, so these were done so that the screws were colormatched.

Justin I completely missed this point when we had our last phone conversation. i was saying the generic size required for 15" rotors is 19" wheels, but did not account for the step lip. We'll have to see, fingers crossed

ATL_Red_G35 04-09-2010 01:20 PM

I don't blame you. I powdercoat on average, 10 sets of calipers per week. When the option is presented, on caliper sets that have the bolts exposed, I always offer the option of coating them assembled rather than apart, because those bolts just get grimy after a short while. At a minimum, if they are a new caliper, I will reassemble after the base coat and then clearcoat them with the bolts installed.
