Alignment can't be adjusted?

6 months ago I had an alignment done and stupidly asked the tech to get the rear camber to -3 degrees.

They did.

I wanted to put the alignment back to factory spec, so I took it back to them and told them to adjust it.

They said they couldn't adjust it at all.

Since the rear camber bolts were "maxed out", it doesn't matter what direction they turn it, it'll increase the negative camber until the bolt comes out. They recommend I go aftermarket for adjustable camber arms and take it to another shop.

After about 15 minutes of arguing and having them show me what they meant, I still don't understand how that's possible.

Anyone experience this before?

There is only toe adjustment from the factory. You need to get adjustable control arms to adjust your camber in both the front and rear.

Yup. Stock suspension has almost no adjustability whatsoever.

I guess the next question is “what did the last tech show you on the alignment paperwork that confirmed they set it to -3* of camber if they couldn’t make any adjustments?”

Wait -- I thought the rear camber was adjustable, just not on the fronts.

Rear camber and rear toe are both adjustable… just barely though. The eccentric bolts don’t have a large range

Ok, that's what my understanding was too. So what makes it so that once you max our the rear camber, you can't go back?

My guess is the the tech increased the ovality of the bolt holes and made up some offset washers that are welded into the rear subframe - stranger things have happened in past lives !!!!

Murphy lives on I suspect

SPL would solve everything

Nothing… that makes no sense at all. Did you lower your car or many any modifications to the suspension? If you are on stock suspension, they should be able to put it right back to OEM spec.

Like BGTV8 said… hopefully they didn’t make some permanent modification to your suspension to get you 3 degrees of negative camber. That’s the only reason why it wouldn’t be reversible

What shop did you go to?

If the car is lowered, the camber would already be pushed in that direction, so the tech may not have had to do much to get it to the requested -3 degrees. OP likely needs to go to aftermarket control arms to get it in range.
