Boots for Koni Yellows?
 

Will the stock boot fit the Koni Yellows? If no, what are you using? Are boots recommended for the front and rear?

Can you just use the boots from the stock suspension?

I don't know. That's why I asked that question. I'm not changing the shocks right now and want to be prepared.

i did a quick google about it. And I think generally people use the stock boot. But I couldn't find a specific example for the 370z. It's not a popular shock afaik. Never heard of anyone using it. Or maybe the people that use it just aren't as vocal about it because it's not fancy.

From just eyeballing the shock itself it looks like the stock boot will be fine imo

Are you saying Koni Yellows are not popular? So what is a popular shock for street use with lowering springs?

I have no real proof just I haven't come across anyone that has bought them. Haven't seen many(any?) forum threads about them. I think people generally buy something with some adjustments (perch and shock body length) If they bother to upgrade their shocks/springs.

So I would guess, the most popular shocks for lowering springs, are stock shocks.
Lowering springs is mostly a cost saving measure. When you don't want to spend money on coilovers. The overlap of people buying lowering springs and shocks together is probably incredibly small. When you can buy coilovers for the same price, or even less.

advice: sell your lowering springs and buy some br racing BR coilovers for 1200$. That's less than the cost of the lowering springs and koni yellows no? OR just replace your blown shock unit.

You will find that there is a black plastic sleeve on the Koni shock that is in the place of the OE rubber sleeve. If you were to recycle your sleeves, it looks like there would be some modifications you would need to make to allow them to fit. The installation instructions that come with the Koni shocks make no mention of reusing the sleeves on their product.

I think you nailed it. Koni is a popular damper among a lot of different platforms, but it doesn't seem to be as common for the 370Z (if this forum holds any indication). They are a great product, but pricey. With a set of springs and these struts/shocks, you are quickly approaching the same value of your budget coilovers available on the market, which allow even greater adjustment. I know that Koni offers a lifetime guarantee on their products, and they will either rebuild or offer a replacement at no charge if the damage/failure occurs on the street (the same warranty does not apply if it occurs on course or track). They will also customize the damper for specific applications (for, I assume, a cost). I've had great experiences with Koni products on a past car, which is why I went that route.

I did not reuse the sleeves, as the plastic cover appears to be serve the same purpose. That said, I kept the OE sleeves in the event I need them in the future since they were still good. Perhaps an unnecessary thing to keep on hand, but I'm kind of a pack rat when it comes to these things.

I was thinking the front shock boots. as the product picture for the rear shows them coming with a sleeve. I assume you could buy a 10 dollar universal boot for the fronts as well

Did you have to take off the Koni top hats and put back on the OEM ones?

I have Konis and like them. For the Z they are not inserts like on some other cars. It has been a long time since I installed them but it's just a strut swap on the front. Compress the spring, remove the strut and reuse the top hat etc. The rears come with their own dust boot because the adjustment is at the top of the dust boot.
