Shop Time for Caliper Rebuild.

Does anyone know the standard shop time for doing all that's needed for installed the following Caliper Kits.

D1120-JL00A Front
D4120-JL00A Rear

Shops charging 4.5 Hrs labor.

I am in the same situation, I asked my mechanic and he said it will take a day work, not sure if this is right.

Also, I got the kit from Z1 but I don't know if I will need any additional parts.

I ordered the Akebono brake rebuild kit from the Nissan Race Shop. I was quoted $800 labor for the rebuild plus any additional parts that may be needed. Still less expensive than just purchasing brand new Akebono brake calipers. My front passenger side brake caliper was sticking and a complete rebuild of all four of my Akebono brake calipers was highly recommend. Depending on the shop you select to do your brake calipers rebuild I would expect to pay between $800-$1000. Also any additional parts that could be needed. Estimated 8-10 hours labor. I really needed my brake fluid flushed. I got a very good deal from the shop I had rebuild my brake calipers. I supplied the Redline brake fluid and they did my brake flush for only $75!

New Nissan calipers are $1200 now. You might save on labor cost. I just bought new ones, swapped the rotors out. It really is simply to do.

Whatever rebuild kit you get. MAKE sure there is the o-ring seal for between the halves. Some kits don't have that o-ring like the OEM kit. The kit from Z1 has the o-ring.

I should go into business rebuilding the calipers. It doesn't take that long. I posted pic's a caliper rebuild that I did in this thread. The pic's start on page 4.

If you guys ship me the calipers and rebuild kits. What are you willing to pay?

The shop is gonna bill you for getting the car up on a lift or on stands, removing the wheels, taking off the calipers, taking apart the calipers, replacing all the seals and cleaning the components, and then putting everything back together. A good shop will flush your fluid and re-fill as well. Thats gonna be a health chunk of cash, so it'll be up to you if thats worth it

Good point the o-ring is included in the Okebono brake caliper rebuild kit from the Nissan race shop. Rebuilding brake calipers is fairly easy just takes time. I don’t know where some of you guys are finding the Akebono calipers so cheap? I payed a lot more for my Okebono brake kit. Comparing to other brand calipers I have people have overall good luck with the Okebono calipers depends on the demand on your brake system?

I rebuilt mine by myself, granted i had mine powdercoated at the same time, but i hated it. makes a mess of old brake fluid. the pistons don't always wanna play nice coming out. its easy once theyre clean and going back together but they can be nasty getting apart. i'd take a bath in gear oil before getting brake fluid every where. hate that stuff

Just curious but for those of you that track your car, what's the service/rebuilt interval?

I've done mine once since I've had the car. Dust seals are easy to replace without pulling the caliper apart.

The dust boots don't hold up to temperatures that track use gets them. I replace them yearly, but I'm sure they go bad after a few sessions. I have only had them taken completely apart once and they were in need of a good cleaning.

When I did mine for some reason what gave me so much trouble was getting the dust boots in place with the spring clip. I don't know wtf is wrong with my fingers that made it so difficult.

when i was reading about the Brembo GT and various other high level race calipers, that was a surprising thing i learned. At the high end, you don't even run a boot bc it's just gonna get burned up under that heat of repeated use. They get maintained after races anyways

for street cars, you can't expect to take the damn thing apart and clean it so you need boots

always the compromise for speed vs street
