Thoughts on the $500 Tein Street Basis Coilovers?

https://thmotorsports.com/tein/tein-...i-2419513.aspx

These to be precise.
I've toying a lot recently with idea of wanting to lower my Z and also improve handling a bit too. Its at 125K, pretty sure original springs and shocks though it has zero sag. It actually rides really really nice too, though does seem a bit wayward in higher speed cornering and the way it reacts to undulations and bumps. It's not as nailed down and playful as my friends FRS for example. Feels much more like an 8/10s than a 10/10s car, even Chris Harris said that in a Z review. Anyways I want a small drop for the look of it, only an inch front and rear nothing crazy, but also to sharpen up the responses and decrease vertical movement. I watched my friend accelerate in it the other day to see what it looked like on the road and it does have a fair bit of squat/front lift in first and second gear too.

So I know it seems super popular to do just springs, like the Swifts, but I don't want to blow my shocks, especially if they are original they won't last long, and I don't feel like spending loads and loads on nice coils over a grand. If I had a new or low mileage example, I would splurge for HKS or KW no doubt. I saw these Tein's and just totally am dumbfounded at the price. Seeing these would replace my potentially tired stock spring and dampers, it would surely be an upgrade? I'm not looking for anything fancy, I don't need 30 way adjustable dampers. These aren't adjustable for damping but if it's similar in stiffness or slightly more stiff to what I have, then that's great as mine stock is too comfy to me honestly. Probably won't be tracked, just the occasional spirited drive and drifting in the rain in the empty business park haha.

After all that rambling information, anyone have these and can say they are crap? Or good for money as way to drop car slightly and have new shocks/struts at same time?

thank you!

I do not have Tien coil overs but would like to say if you can get springs, shocks and or coil overs with front and rear upgraded sway bars do it. One of the best mods I did on the Z. Night and day difference, the Z feels top heavy stock on corners after the suspension mods the car handles like it should.

Even the sways too? Looking at the stock bars, they're not wimpy, beefy for stock bars at least. Especially compared to my friends S13 stock sways and my old E46 330 bars. What coils and bars do you have?

Great bang for your buck especially if you're not looking to go too low. Paired them with hotchkis sways. Now, I'm able to keep up with my e36 and e46 m3 friends in the canyons :). I'm actually thinking of selling my set that has about 3K miles, only because i want to go a little lower in the rear and I'm maxed out lol Maybe we can work something out if you're looking to buy used.

did you ever drive on them before the sway bars to know what difference was in just having the Tein's? Working something out could definitely be an option I think! I was planning to buy new just because I would assume new would mean some type of warranty support if something happened.

With just teins on it was night and day, center of gravity shifted making the car handle a lot better. The sways were just the finishing touches the car need to really rotate.

I have the eibach pro kit springs with the eibach front and rear sways.

Sway bars are absolutely the single best bang-for-the-buck purchase you can make on these cars. Order them yesterday.

And that was the same coils I posted? Sweet! I probably won't need sways as I don't want to track my car, with as many miles as I have haha. Ride is only slightly stiffer than stock?

does this apply to cars w the sport suspension or just the base suspension?

You may need to consider a different spring option if you only want to lower it an inch. Tein usually makes there setup for very aggressive drops. Having to adjust the preload to get it to the height you want it will put too much stress on the springs and ultimately reduce ride quality.

Also what tires are you using? Different winter and summer setups?

No. But you don't need the stiffest kit on the market. Your increase in swaybar stiffness should be relative to your increase in spring rate and tire grip. If you don't have tires sticky enough to cope with the extra spring pressure, you may not need a stiff swaybar. Slightly stiffer in the front is the most stable option.

I didn't think there was a difference in suspensions between base and sport. Is there now?

IDK for sure, I guess I've always *assumed* there was...

According to the Nissan parts DB there is no difference in sway bars between base and sport.. Nismo is different, however.

If I'm remembering right, even the Nismo has the same sways. It's just different springs and dampers.

Regardless, sways are the biggest upgrade you can do for a couple hundred bucks. You'll notice it every time you run the wheel.
