Nissan 370Z Forum - Review: Sparta Evolution Big Brake Kit

So I was fortunate enough to pick up a new BBK from Sparta Evolution (first US 370Z kit).

Here is my review of the new kit:

Sparta is based in Redmond, WA and is a full service design, engineering, and manufacturing company. Sparta, becoming known in the BMW world after winning the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, has been steadily increasing their application offering. Here is a review on their Triton Race kit for the Nissan 370Z.
Perceived Quality:
As soon as the boxes arrived, I was impressed by the packaging design details. Full color printed boxes contained compartmented foam interiors for each component in a nice display of professionalism. All of the components had their own snug little home so there is little risk of shipping damage.
After taking the hand-assembled calipers out, the details were spot on. The constant-contour machining showed great care was taken for light-weighting as well as appearance. With the tinted clear anodizing on all of the aerospace grade 2014 aluminum, the calipers look like engineered jewelry.
Real Quality:
While some BBK manufactures focus on aesthetics more than function, function is paramount on these kits and is enhanced by the aesthetic. This is evident by the use of ARP hardware and hardened pins joining the caliper halves and the beefy mount brackets. Also worth noting is the castellated pistons which minimize piston-to-pad contact, reducing temperature transfer to the brake fluid.
The two-piece rotors feature their patented "S" groove pattern on precision cast rotors. The rotors are incredibly thick with extra wide air passages. Goodridge, an industry standard, supplies the Teflon-lined, steel braided lines.
What I really liked about Sparta's design is that it uses the standardized FMSI pad shape, allowing the freedom to choose what pad compound and manufacturer. My kit came with the standard Hawk Performance 5.0 pads for the street and I will be running Hawk Blue 9012 or DTC-50 pads for road course events this summer.
Installation:
Installation was a breeze with no fitment issues. The instructions are well written, but some of the visuals can be misleading. As with all BBK's that switch you from a factory steel hat to aluminum, the new aluminum hat is about 4mm thicker, moving your wheels out 4mm. Bleeders on both sides of the calipers made bleeding the Motul 660 fluid easy, just time consuming.
Road Review:
After bedding the pads and putting a few heat cycles on the system we put about 100 miles of spirited driving on them. This also included 70-0 mph hard stopping, modulation, and wet weather. The first thing that caught my attention was how stiff the calipers are. Sparta's Triton calipers appear to be as stiff as Stop Tech's Trophy series. There is little to no deflection in the caliper halves, nor was there movement from the caliper mounts. Initial bite is consistent and predictable in the dry and wet. There was no noise or vibration regardless of how much (or little) temperature was in the pads. And pedal feel is firm with good modulation and responsiveness.
Overall it is an impressive kit at an attractive price point for a track ready big brake kit that focuses on function without sacrificing form.
