Will rear Akebono improve my braking with AP Racing front calipers?

I'm not really well versed in the braking bias and performance on our cars. I have AP Racing front calipers, they look to be 4 piston not the radi-cal 6 piston ones. I think they're just the older model. Rear calipers are base.

Will upgrading to rear akebono's be an improvement or will it bias the brakes too much to the rear?

AP Racing will match a caliper and rotor setup to the brake system of the car it's going to, as long as it is sold as a kit for the car in question. That being said, I see no reason as to why you can't install the Akebono's on the rear and have the AP's on the front. The 370 has a dynamic brake bias system anyways, so it will cover about any difference you see. And beyond that, you can change your bias by what pads you run in the rear.

You might wanna give AP Racing a call. A big outfit like them probably has a matching rear set that was intended to be used with the fronts

Even if you have an older model they should be able to look up whatever info they have and find you a proper solution

that said, unless you're driving at the limits, it won't kill you just going with the Akebonos in the rear

If you cannot reach AP Racing, i would also recommend contacting Stillen, since they work with Ap racing they should know their stuff

I'd say keep the front and rears sets matched. Why would you spend that money to potentially reduce overall stopping performance.

It sounds like he doesn't have a matched set already. 4 piston AP fronts with 1 piston OEM rears? It seems to me that upgrading the OEM rear to 2 piston Akebono rear (or ideally a matched AP rear) would be on par with upgrading to the sport package calipers (4 piston fronts/2 piston rears), keeping relatively close to the OEM brake bias. Obviously pads can significantly influence this as well.

Did you upgrade rotors also? Or is that not necessary?

I would say contact AP. proper brake bias is based on so many more things then piston size , and it's always good to have the things stopping u in as good as shape/working at there best. While putting the akebonos on the back would more then likely move the bias to the front more then stock, it will be better then the base brakes in the back.

Im using the AP 6 pistons in the front with the base brakes in the read. Ive been to the track a few times and can easily brake at the last possible second into a corner. Adding a different rear caliper may improve things for you but I think its more about pad compound in the rear since most of your stopping power is coming from the front.
