front camber HELP

can I get some help on this issue. I have been replacing tires seems like every 8 months. The front tires always wearing even on the inside edge, the outer edge is like new!! I want to purchase the front camber kit, I do not track the car and it isn't lowered. I have been reading a bit and researching finding that some of the kits are not even approved for the street?? can someone offer insight on the best kit for daily use? this is my wife's daily driver. "These tires are expensive :ugh2:

If you're really killing front tires every 8 months it's most likely not the camber setting but a bad toe setting that's eating your tires. Excessive toe will kill a set of tires faster than just about anything else.

Or you can get an alignment..

HT Rambler 10-05-2016 03:19 PM

Not that I'm an expert, that is just what 2 alignment shops told me. Even wear would more likely be camber vs. uneven feathering would be toe ??? But really would like input on camber adjustments. I see that quite a few people have done it here.

OP, any pictures of the tire wear? Do you know what your front camber currently is? With how pathetic our front camber is from the factory I still have a hard time believing camber wear is your issue.

At the end of the day if you still have your heart set on buying FUCA's I'd go with SPL, Z1, or SPC. SPL is costly and will make for a harsher ride but is definately the gold standard for aftermarket control arms.

you said you went to an alignment shop, but did you actually get an alignment?

i mean this is clearly the issue, and you need to get it on the rack to see whats going on

OP has had tire wear problem dating back to 2010 when he wore his rears down to completely bald within 12k miles, and not due to aggressive driving (per OP).

You should really take other's suggestion to:
  • Take and post pics of the tire wear
  • Get current alignement reading so you know what is causing the accelerated wear
  • ***Find out exactly what's wrong first before you buy anything***

Stock front camber is zero. There is no adjustment. I am not sure why you want camber arms to fix somthing that has zero camber already? Are you trying to add negative or positive camber? Has the car been in an accident?

It seems to me you are investing money in a problem that may not exist. If you have the alignment sheet from the tire shop, please post it.

Well, his car is 09, and is a daily. Don't know how many miles he's placed on this car. If FUCA stock bushings are worn, it will cause camber to be out of spec, and will need replacement, true?

or hitting a curb/pothole could cause a suspension component to be damaged.

In any case, the solution is still the same. OP needs to get his car on a rack and have an alignment shop inspect his suspension arms and get an alignment.

i dunno why he'd expect us to be able to diagnose this from the internet

maybe we can fix his plumbing from here too?

Agree completely. He said it is a daily driver so assume he has no need for spherical bushings and the NVH that comes with those. Definately does not need the adjustability of new camber arms.

Hell, if he needs stock FUCA, I have a pair I can sell him cheap!

Thanks for the replies,
I'll try and address best I can.
1) Car was aligned, and yes I have the printout just not here at work.
2) Don't have the old tires to post pic's, you will have to trust me on that one.
3) Didn't ask anyone to do any diagnosis, you wanted to be an expert all by yourself, simply asked a question about control arms.
4) Yes car was in (minor) accident in 09 less than a month old. Many alignments and checks since then.
5) Car was inspected and aligned, I'm sure if there was any worn out parts tech would have jumped at the chance to make that money.
6) No spirited driving wife's daily. (I have nice vehicle for that, weekend warrior only.)
Did I miss anything ??

HT Rambler, the reason for our questions was because your posts have contradicting info. We are trying to help you in a responsible manner. Easy to point you to the best suspension part, but:
  • Installation and subsequent adjustments of such parts can be tricky. Not all techs are knowledgeable to deal with them. Some techs even lean/push on cars to get the alignment reading within specs.
  • You don't seem to know much about this topic
  • A stock car with unaltered suspension should not need such components. Your issue could be simply worn bushings and should aim for OEM replacement.
  • We are trying to spare you the above pain by giving you the best diagnosis, even if you didn't specifically ask for one.

But, seems like we've overextended our help.

So addressing your question simply and directly....don't buy the "camber kits" that are "not approved for the street".

Best of luck :tiphat:

Again as stated I'm not an expert just having tire wear issues. I must commend you on your response, but you say "we" loosely. I can plainly see the help extended which I much appreciate. But then there are others that offer opinions not asked for then try and blame the thread starter, you can go back and read the response and find out what category fits each response. I'm not going to elaborate, but clearly the suggestion is not to by the arms. Was willing to spend the extra money which is minimal compared to the price of the tires. So if everyone would respond in civil courteous manner in which you did this would have been much shorter discussion. I only go by what I was told by the supposed experts about the car being fine on parts and alignment issues. I only pursued the issue after a little reading and investigating, trying to solve the tire wear issue. Goggled tread wear and read what I could to come to that conclusion. I can tell by the responses that maybe I'm headed in the wrong direction. Didn't start this thread to hear " probably didn't get an alignment", etc.. etc...
Again thanks for response !!

^ I knew you weren't directing your remarks toward me.

I think I speak for many members here: Although you are not new to your car and the forum, please do understand that as 370z ages, there are many new owners that are much younger and can have next to no clue about driving a sports car (or driving a car actually), let alone suspensions. Some remarks, although viewed as sarcastic and demeaning, come from frustrations that we get these seemingly simple questions, lacking vital info, with expectation of very simple answers, on topics that get repeatedly covered.

Real story: I've personally knew a car enthusiast, self installed all new aftermarket suspension components, but did not think to get an alignment, completely chewed up all 4 new tires in 2 weeks...yes 2 weeks...then went on FB and ranted his bad luck, defective part, etc etc. Yes, people like this exist, and are hard to distinguish.

Not defending anyone, just want you to understand the other side of the coin.

Anyway, when you get the chance, if you are still up for it, post the latest alignment readout. Preferably both before and after.
