Brake caliper springs - do you use yours?

These things are the death of me. They add unnecessary time to my pad swaps. Anyone chunk them? Other than keeping the pads from rattling while the brakes aren't applied, I don't see the purpose. None of the race brakes on my other cars have had these. Do you run them?

No

Keep stones out? I had a stone get in there during a session once and made some pretty horrible noises. Lookin at your pic, are yours on backwards? Either yours are or mine are lol. Try flipping them around I think it might solve the problem, I don't really find mine to be too big of an issue to deal with. Maybe I inadvertently flipped them around because it was easier to put them back on that way. :)

Dude I've flipped these things a hundred ways and they're a pain regardless. Nissan says I have to special order new ones. F that. $62. I'm considering doing a test run without.

Yes, the ones pictured are backwards. Check Rockauto for the hardware kit, cheap...

Ordered a new kit. You are correct. Mine are upside down. I think the previous owner put them that way too. They have been bent, preyed on, etc. New ones on the way for $4.88

:tiphat:

Good info-and good price! I think probably once you get the new ones and they aren't all bent out of shape what have you, you will find they are not too big of an issue to work with. You should only need slightly depress that center tab and it will release the pin fairly easily. good luck!

Man, I hope so. I'd literally spend 20 minutes wrestling with them, per side.

:ugh: Prior to installing the top and bottom pins be sure to grease them to assist.

Spooler 04-13-2015 07:23 PM

Put the bottom pin in first, then do the top one wiggling the pin past the spring plates. It's not bad. Don't do both at the same time. It's a pain in the butt that way.

Wow...I use those and can change brake pads in 5 mins per wheel! 20 minutes? Practice boy! haha

Practice!? I've swapped these things a dozen times in the last 2 months from track to street pads and back! Ha! I really think my springs were jacked up from the get go (I bought the car used) and I made them worse as I continued to wrestle with them. New hardware should resolve this..I hope

Yes

Thank you sir! I'm looking forward to throwing mine in the garbage and putting in a fresh set.
