SPL Front Camber Arm Adjustment Question
 

I need some insight on just what happened yesterday when getting an alignment done at my local Firestone.

I installed the SPL front and rear camber arms and went to get an alignment. I explained everything I wanted done and was onsite in case the tech had any questions. After a long wait he comes back saying he is finished but has some questions and needs me to come take a look.

He said he is at the max negative camber on the front at my requested -2.5. He states that is as far as it will go (he is not the brightest). I asked him how far off was I when I brought it in. It showed nearly -4.0. So if I had it set to nearly -4.0 camber how is -2.5 the max? He someone managed to adjust the rod end all the way back into the adjuster and then proceeded to max out only the adjuster. Thus getting my camber set to almost -2.5. After waiting 2.5 hours I told him to bolt it back up and I would fix it later.

So my question is can you adjust the rod end while everything is bolted up and on the alignment rack? The tech said he had to unbolt it, but I am not sure if he meant actually unbolting the rod end from the car.

Any help is much appreciated.

Sounds like he screwed up. Think you may have to take the front upper arms off, and reset set the adjusting pieces. He may of taking the arm off and just adjusted the heim joint itself and not the whole assy.

I attempted to reply a few times and kept deleting them. I just couldn't figure out how things got messed up. I think you just got your answer.
I agree with the above.....you probably need to pull the arm, reset the adjusters and start over. Make sure the guy understands how to adjust them this time around. I wouldn't think you'd want to unbolt any part of it once installed.

Agreed. Sounds like he unbolted your arm and then adjusted it. I would start over and find either another shop or another tech. I also agree that you should explain how to adjust before you turn the keys over to them and make sure they understand...

The only other thing I can think of is he didn't loosen all (3) of the 3/16th allen heads and was bottoming-out on the adjuster.

Last thought is I would set the arms as close to stock distance and then adjust from there. I am not sure how you started with -4 degrees to begin with. That is close to the limit of adjustment anyway.

I appreciate it guys. I don't think it was really -4. Closer to -3 would be my guess as I set it up close to the SPC arms I took off.

I figured I'd have to take them off to fix it. Just wanted to make sure before I pulled them back off to start over.

Definitely need a different tech.

If you pull the adjusters apart. Put anti-seize the threads. ;)
