51K on OEM pads and rotors

Hey All,
I just pulled the right front tire off to get started on a front brake job and they really don't need replacing just yet. Looks like 3-4 mil of good pad left on each side. I'm just curious what you guys get out of a set of brakes on a daily driver. I realize it's subjective but, 51k with another 5k + estimated life seems like a lot of life out of stock pads and rotors. The rears were done at 45k b/c the dash light indicator was coming on and at the time Firestone had a $99 per axle special so, I wasn't gonna get dirty and do it myself to save about $40.

I've got 60k on stock pads and I even swapped out the rotors for slotted and they're still fine. They seem to last a long time.

I haven't had a chance to look at my pads, but I have 43,000 kms on my car and the front rotors are bad! I bought the car at 33 km and noticed a slight vibration when they got warm and they got progressively worse. My next two investments are front rotors and an oil cooler.

I've been running Hawk PC on the fronts for about 45K miles. Still lots of life left on them. I've got 65K miles on the original stock rear pads and they're still doing ok as well.

I replaced the front rotors and pads at 20K miles mostly because my wife had some bad braking habits. Very uneven pad deposits caused shaking even under mild braking.

I am looking to replace the rear (and possibly the front) rotors and pads all around sometime in the next year in preparation for ZDayZ 2016.

I just hit 40k miles on my Z and the pads still look like they have around 60% life left in the fronts and rears 80%.

i'm debating if I even want to swap the pads/rotors for zdayz this year. I have pads and fluid ready on the shelf but why fix it if it isn't broken right?

brother FPenvy,

My commute is 30 miles one way and zero traffic here in Silicon Valley, two
years ago changed to the Centric Posi Quite brake pads as they emit very
little brake dust on my Nismo wheels. They have about the same amount
of material left 65% remaining in the front brake pads and 80%
remaining in the rear brake pads. This after 2 years of daily driving

i'm semi-close to that. DD in the warm months and my total daily commute to and from work is around 40 miles slight traffic. I have the OEM replacement pads on the shelf waiting. I believe they are the same or just a bit different than the pads you went with. i'd have to check when I got home to be positive as to what they are honestly lol

brother FPenvy,

As I daily drive my 2010 Nismo and currently at 74,000 miles the "Centric
Posi Quite" brake pads reduced the brake dust bye 60% to 70% and
when weekly cleaning my Nismo wheels the brake dust rinses of with
high pressure water.

Wishing you a safe week ahead :tiphat:

yes I agree. light brake dust is always a plus. I don't do too much track driving to want a more track oriented pad....yet lol

have a safe week as well brother :tiphat:

I had a 125,000 miles on mine before I changed them and still had pad left, but my new parts showed up so I swapped them, got slotted rotors and Hawk pads now. I've put on 86,xxx miles and still good.

brother 90ST, coming from a gentleman who really drives your 370Z
you are a true bell weather and can attest to these claims. Where
are you at in miles or kilometers on your Z currently ?

This is bad news for me, I was going to wait until the stock brakes wore down before I upgraded to Akebono's. Looks like I'll be waiting a long time if I stick to that (5k miles right now) :bowrofl:

I, and I bet most others are on the Sport brakes...the base brakes may wear faster, don't worry you'll get there. LOL
