Koni at comparable stock setting?

Does anyone know at what point the Konis are comparable to the dampening of the stock shocks? Are we talking half rotation, 1/4, 1/8? anywhere at all?

I'd like to start at stock and then move up from there as necessary

If I'm not mistaken, the Koni even at their lowest setting, will still be a bit firmer than stock.

That's about right. Close to the same as OEM maybe just a bit firmer at the softest setting

So does the dampening match front to back for stock in that sense? I'll likely take dampening up more in the front then the rear with the Koni on.

Not sure if the "numbers" are the same front to back, but yes, the Koni's feel like they match the OEM front to back. I ran mine full soft until Autocross started, now I have them set about 70% stiff up front and 20% rear. Not too bad for daily driving with the rears soft. When I installed the Koni's I set them at 50/50 and that's too stiff in the rear for comfortable daily driving.

i read your post in another place about the 70/20. So it feels pretty balanced and less tendency to push at this setting? You have a front sway also, no? Do you think the front at 50 would be more comparable for a stock front sway?

Hard to say, the Eibach front sway was one of the first mods I made when I got my car a year ago. The sway really flattened out any roll during turns and it would probably take a lot of stiffness in the shocks to replicate that. 50 with OEM sway would not be as stiff at my setup, but would probably be a good starting point for you. Start with 50 front and full soft in the rear and go from there.

Just a little DIY, the Koni adjustment tool sucks. It cut the middle section out of the tool and epoxied it into a driver bit. I then set my shocks to full soft and marked the bit and the wheel well. Now I can reach the adjustment and can judge how much change being made.

ha! nice! I like it. Yeah my friend is going from his Koni to KW V3 so he's selling me his for half the cost. That's a good tip for the tool.

Yeah I want to start around stock and then go up from there since stock is pretty well balanced. I'm also about to be running 275 square so i'm hoping that'll take care of some of the understeer. No sway means I'll have a sloppier turn in, but too much sway is bad on our track since we use a police course and there are a lot of surface changes, dips, and minor elevation changes. I'm also slightly weary of over-dampening the stock springs and not allowing them to have enough suspension travel.

Anybody have any pics installed on car? These are not height adjustable correct? How much does the koni/swift combo drop the car?

whatever the swifts drop the car...shocks don't change ride height since they compress and expand at a 'rate', unless your springs are taller than your shocks at max height, which these aren't. Springs support the height of the car

that being said these are not progressive dampeners (as none are) so i'm not sure progressive springs will mate very well. Progressive springs are fine as a compromise on stock dampeners, but If you're getting better dampening, go with a linear spring for performance. Swift and Bilstein have some custom made ones I believe.

Ok thanks clearing that up. People seem to rave about that combo on here (swift/koni). I'm looking for a budget shock spring combo. Sorry for thread jack!

if you're going for a dropped look, then yeah swift are at a good height. In terms of performance I can't ever subscribe to progressive springs, but a custom setup would be quite nice! :)
