Those are the same ones I ordered. Picking them up in a bit at the post office. I'll probably paint the backing plate body color since I'm not a big fan of CF on the exterior (and they didn't offer body color back plates).

Sorry the pictures are kind of crappy. But I like the way it looks! :)
Still not sure what I want to do w/ the rear 370z/Nismo emblems. Either removing them or Plasti Dip....Having trouble deciding....

Well at least now I know what they'll look like on my car. Now kinda wishing I had gotten the silver/black carbon but once I get the wheels done the all-black look will be nice.

Also: Keep your nismo badging at the very least!

t3h r0nz 10-17-2012 06:29 PM

How come everyone else's black emblems look glossy...

I had the flash on w/ the two next to each other. They are not quite as shiny when on the car though.

Did you file down the knobs underneath so the backing would sit flush?

I have no clue... I took it to the dealership to get the car detailed and they replaced them for me. Sorry I'm of no help there.

dmhenderson 10-17-2012 07:38 PM

Replaced...what for you?

They replaced the Nissan emblems with the Z ones.

dmhenderson 10-17-2012 07:49 PM

What process did you guys use to get the badges off by the way? Previously I had to use a heat gun and fishing line because dental floss wasn't sturdy enough.

May well have been doing it wrong?

I slid a small screwdriver under an edge and pulled straight up. Came right off. The I used my fingers and rubbed the OEM 3m tape off. I used a utility knife to cut off all of the "nubs", then used Iso Alcohol to clean. Then peel and stick. Real easy.

bdub561 10-18-2012 09:01 AM

I used a hairdryer (didn't have a heat gun) and a screwdriver to pull up with. Its a little colder here in MD and the oem stuff was a pain to get off when it got cold. And the stuff under my emblems didnt look like tape. It looked like some sort of epoxy/adhesive glue.

Quick pics after the install note I don't know if the 2012 or older have this issue, but on the 2013 on the Front and Rear bumpers some sanding of little bumps are required.

Frankly, I get a bit annoyed when people incorrectly refer to the 370Z as a 350Z -- not out of some kind of weird car guy snobbery, per se, but because I didn't buy a Z car until this most recent one, because I really didn't like the looks of the last gen one.

In other words, part of what I love about the 370Z is that is much nicer looking (to my eye) than its immediate predecessor.

I say leave the badging. It identifies the car for what it is to those without a discerning eye.

****WARNING****

Just confirmed with my body shop. The "carbon fiber backing" is a piece of tagboard with a carbon fiber-patterned sticker on it. Do not give these people your money.

The slightest bit of weather will instantly ruin these emblems! Even if you waterproof them, the sun will bleach out the "carbon fiber" very quickly.

slippery4678 10-25-2012 08:17 PM

wtf... I just spent a week painting a clearing them.

pf62 10-25-2012 08:22 PM

Not good news, ordered mine 2 weeks ago.

Jordo! 10-25-2012 09:17 PM

^^^ The solution is a solid plastic backing, painted whatever color or with a circle of thin CF sheet adhered to it.

Basically were talking about chopping up coffee can lids and either using paint or buying this stuff to go on it Flexible carbon fibre sheet with self adhesive backing - Carbon Mods

I think 3M makes one with real cf also, but that's what I found after quick search.

EVO-R could offer this. If not, in the future folks could buy the one without a back and make their own.

If mine falls apart, I'll just make my own (though it would be nice if EVO-R could fix this problem and make up for it...)

dmhenderson 10-25-2012 09:20 PM

EVO-R needs to replace these things with something that you can actually stick on a freaking car or they need to leave.

I don't mean to sound harsh but this would be like buying an exhaust and receiving a cardboard wrapping paper roll/coffee can exhaust and going "oh hey let's give them a chance to make it right".

This is garbage. I'm not really willing to compromise or negotiate. Either give me what I paid for or don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out and I'll pursue my refund through other means.

GaleForce 10-25-2012 09:38 PM

Wat is that? ^^^ :icon14:

dmhenderson 10-25-2012 09:38 PM

you can see the water between the plastic and the cardboard

Jasonle 10-25-2012 09:39 PM

This is very disappointing... I want a refund please

dmhenderson 10-25-2012 09:43 PM

lol you can even see where the sticker is cracking around the edges near the bottom left of pic #2 as it's warping upward.

cooltoy 10-25-2012 11:02 PM

Give him a chance to respond. Maybe he got jibbed by a factory that was hired to make them. My silver backing looks like plastic, but I have not pried it away or anything.

faceglide 10-26-2012 12:29 AM

Just got mine in today, can confirm, the CF is essentially a sticker with the backing still attached. Its pretty unimpressive. You can literally pull it off and stick on something else.

The molded Z looks great, but im willing to bet that all who keep it will have to put something together for the backplate. At the very least some vinyl cf on a plastic cutout will be a MAJOR upgrade.

Im halfway to disputing my payment......payed 90 dollars for some molded black z's, could have just had my current ones professionally painted for half that......or just plastidipped for 5 bucks.

evo-r has some 'splainin to do.........

X2... evor has been in deep waters before and has ALWAYS come out of it..... im sure he will work out a deal with you guys....

EVOR 10-26-2012 08:52 AM

I'm currently in Los Angeles getting ready for SEMA. All the carbon back plates are made with real carbon fiber hard pressed sheets. Black carbon are made with 3K cross weave carbon. Silver are made with plaine weave carbon. As for the flat black back plate problem I will have some made with acrylic hard back plate. Will have these done once I get back from SEMA in Las Vegas. I have not got a chance to reply here since I was on the plane for 13 hrs.
