Connecting iPod - Displaying Video

I've got an AV cable that connects from the headphone output on my iPod Touch and splits into audio L/R and video. I tried a video clip from the ipod and it outputs the audio but no video. Do I need a cable that connects from the data output of the ipod for video to display or do I need to tweak some settings elsewhere?

you are lacking a video signal and need one of these

Your right, you need to use the data output like 370z4Steve said.

If you output from the headphone socket, you'll only get audio as expected.

I wish our cars came with the proper ipod connector, but the after market ones might actualy be better.

Thanks 370z4Steve, that's what I thought.

I meant it wasn't outputting video while idle (engine off).

Why would you want the video to work while driving? That's gotta be distracting!

I have tried the standard Apple video cable with my iPhone and it worked really well. I'm not sure if it works while driving though.

It will not play video while the car is in motion. It's a safety issue.
