For those wanting a reverse camera
Hey guys
I have been doing some digging and I think I have found where to buy the part from: Nissan Japan - Rear Backup Camera Kit (Japanese Spec) Would work out cheaper to import the part yourself and get someone to fit it than to get them to supply the part as well. The quote I got was $1100 for supply and fit from GCCS. You can buy the part for $US595 = AUD $708.. so might save you $250 or so... |
I am interested in this. Do you think its the same one as the GTR which they discuss here and is also sold here
Ive spoken to the guy at GCCS and it sounded like most of the $$ was the labour as it took them over a week to get it working with their kit. Where as the factory unit seems to be plug and play Quote:

Also I found a link to this on this forum HERE
It has the +12V input trigger which must connect to the reverse lights so it can change the input on screen. So this would be the option if going aftermarket and sourcing your own camera |
This is what I really want more than the camera....
YouTube - Nissan 370Z iPod Interface That is the same as out system... really dont understand why no one can give us this capability! |

If we know the connector used for the iPod cable it should be pretty easy to see if it fits. I may have to pull my unit out and have a look… |
Hey guys,
New 370 owner in Bris, Qld! :) And yes, reverse camera is first thing im looking for. already nearly hit something the other day!!!!! :'( so close hahaha $1100 seems like a complete rip off though!!!?! Whats wrong with the $50 ones on ebay?! Fill me innnn :P |
|
I've had a reverse camera in my Merc now for a while and I must say I would hardly ever look at it I think the park sensors are much more importan. So what I'm saying is think about it if you are going to go with the camera cause it's pretty expensive for something you might not use. just my $.02
|
I guess Ive just been going by the bad feedback on the visability in the 370Z. I'm yet to take delivery so I don't know.
What do you think on this Joe? How are you finding reversing out How much are the sensors? I wonder if its too late to ring the dealer and get them added |
I agree with Joe. I had reverse camera installed on my 350z Roadster and never used it. My advise is to consider rev sensors AFTER you get familiar with your car first. The rev sensors in my car have a little lcd read out that show distance and a diagram of the car in relation to the sensors triggered.
|
I'm putting on the genuine Nissan sensors (next Tuesday cause apparently they were out of stock). Will let you know what there like when I get them on the car but so far I havent had any problems reversing the zed it's not a big car so you dont have to squeeze it out of car park like a big car but I think the sensors will be more than good enough. Although I wish they made a door proximity sensor some A$#hole has already opened up their door on my car I wish they had something that could stop that.

Sensors are color matched to not stand out so much right?

I am sure I posted elsewhere, but on my sales receipt for the car it does say $600. Whether thats cost or not I dont know. With the overall price I paid for the car my extras really turned out close to free anyway. Have also emailed my dealer with the James posted to see what else can get done on the iPod/iPhone front. |
Oh BTW, i use the camera a lot. As i dont have sensors, it has come in very useful for parking. Whether it be a tight fit or not. Even for when reversing up to an Ocean (some will get that.).
Cheers |
MrBMW: Do you know how did they manage to connect the camera to the screen? I visited one of the audio shop here in Melbourne..., they dont know how to do it yet...., they said they need to do some research before they try to install it.
TIA |
I had GCCS install Alpline camera. $1500. I have front and rear parking sensors too.
The 370Z has so many blind spots that it doesnt bother me. This was installed with a relay. I dont have to hit AUX button. When I put it in reverse, the camera comes on. |
hrm... Ed i was thinking the same thing as well, i'm getting a reverse cam but still tossing up if i should get front and rev sensors, to be on the safe side. Do you have 4 sensors at the back or just two?

4 on the front and 4 on the rear. |
Guys
I have the reverse camera as well. Done at install thanks to Mr BMW. I have reverse sensors on other cars in the past and I find the camera better in my personal opinion. Clint |
ok with the front sensors, lets say if your tailgating someone hahaha would it still beep?
thanks clint, bit of a mix response with the sensors and cams, each to their own i guess, deff getting the cam but still tossing up with the sensors, don't wanna ruin the look of the car but want to get it just to be on the safe side.. hrmm.. decisions decisions |

For my Z, 1. when reverse is activated, the rear sensors and camera come on. 2. for the front sensors, there is a button you press to turn it on. when you press the button there is a long beep to say they are on. this system is similar to the BMW 1 series way of working. you dont want the front sensors on all the time as they may give off false alarms or set off due to traffic islands. I also own a BF Mk2 FPV GT with front sensors. They are activated when the brakes come on which is a crap way. When I was driving in the country a B-Double cattle trailer on the opposite side of the road came past me me with some spray. I happened to brake and the sensors went nuts! |

Generally I have my iPod/iPhone hooked up 99% of the time and don't notice that i need to hit the Aux button as it's already on there. Might have to check in with GCCS and see if they can play around again with mine, so it will change to the Camera no matter what input (Radio/CD/Nav) the system is on. Quote:
As mentioned though, each to their own. I just find being able to actually SEE where i am is most handy. |
Also Mr ED and CJ' are you guys going to come along to the CRUISE tomorrow night. Should be good to meet up with more 370Z owners.

[/QUOTE] I think for you to avoid the AUX button, you need to install a relay which is pretty pricey. Andrew from GCCS imports them from the USA and not sure if he has stock anymore. He quoted me initially a few options: 1. $750 for Alpine camera with use of AUX button 2. $600 for a cheap camera with use of AUX button 3. $1500 for Alpine camera with relay that engages when car is in Reverse 4. $1350 for cheap camera with relay that engages when car is in Reverse I ended up taking Option 3. As Mr BMW said, each to their own. |

Also thanks for the post on the camera $$$ mate. Will have to meet up and see what sort of difference they make, as in angles etc.. |
MrBMW :Thanks for your reply. My other questions about your camera, when you put in to reverse:
1. Will it work only on "Nav mode"? 2. or will it works in any other screen mode? such as: "settings" mode or other screens mode? I will be doing mine soon.., but the audio shop said probably it will only work in "nav mode"...! Your input will really help..., because they are thinking to tap into the video cable coming out from the NAV computer. |
