Window Tint

Is anyone getting window tint installed? The standard glass seems to be tinted enough. However, I don't know how UV resistant it is. My concern in having the widows tinted is that windows move when opening and closing the doors.

I had mine done and the drivers side door had to be re-done right away due to it being damaged as per your description above. The trick is to pull the rubber away from the glass so about 1" of the film makes it below and behind the rubber on the inside botton of the door window opening.

BTW, I used 30% on the sides and 25% on the back, this are within the limits in Florida.

evse82 07-06-2009 06:49 PM

I'm definately getting window tint. I had it on the 350z and had absolutely no issues with it. If it is done right, then the window moving with the door shut will not affect the tint.

I had it for about 2 years on the 350 with not even a sign of it peeling anywhere

nogoodname 07-06-2009 06:52 PM

window tint is a must for me, ppl look into cars and break the windows to try and take stuff.....stupid ppl

CJ2151 07-06-2009 08:41 PM

Mine will be done prior to delivery. Will be maximum QLD limits.

nismostu 07-06-2009 09:17 PM

yep tinting ordered on mine to - absolute must have

Z_you_Later 07-06-2009 09:25 PM

Jus got mine tinted today and they had no problem with the windows moving up and down ... Im taking a risk and put 7% on the back, 23% on the sides, and even did the windshield 70% to give it a slight glare and keep the sun from beeming in on you as you drive... looks really good and keeps my stuff inside safer now ... I hated using the cargo cover in the trunk...

Hey how much do nissan charge to get the tint?

GTRFAN 07-06-2009 10:03 PM

I have had great experience with TintACar and the Formula1 UV tint.

* ultimate U.V. protection
* maximum heat & glare reduction
* SPF 50+
* patented CMC technology
* lifetime nationwide warranty

Hi evse82, i was quoted by the After sales lady $595. I said no and didnt even try to negotiate a better price. Part of what I know is a higher price was that LCT was being added to the price due to the cost of the car.

Then doing it aftermarket you will generally be able to get it cheaper and possibly better quality. Being winter ATM I'm not worried about it yet. I'll look into getting done quite soon. Probably look at 20-25% for the rear window. Then 35% (darkest legal I think in QLD) for the driver/passenger window.

I have also been thinking about that little triangle piece on the B-Pillar and how dark to go there. Would like to almost have it Blacked Out to match the surrounds of it.

Welcome to TintACar.com.au

I know quite a few people that have been quite happy with TintACar. I am going with a local company myself that has done a few of my cars and offer pretty great prices (have to check old receipts, cant remember their name).

I had the Formula1 UV tint on my S15 and had no complaints. That lasted over 7 years without any problems apart from damage caused by the window mechanism itself which was an issue with most S15's.

My dealer said I can get it done and pay AFTER paying for the car to avoid the LCT. This is the dealer tint. I'm wondering if it would be better to get TintACar to do it.

It would be interesting to see how the dealer could make it avoid LCT, if the car is being delivered with the Tint. I have no doubt though there are ways around. As i have mentioned i never really tried to bargain on the tint, as i think i already had in my head i would get it done aftermarket.

Can ask what was the price they offered for the tint from the dealer.

370er 07-07-2009 03:18 AM

I was under the impression the car would be delivered without the tint and then the tint being added on-site by the dealer... maybe i'm wrong. Oh well i've got plenty of time to think about it :shakes head:

I can't remember what I was quoted for the tint by itself, I had just ordered the car and was too excited.

nismostu 07-07-2009 05:38 PM

I'm leasing my Z so it's not much point me saying what I'm paying for the tint as it's discounted and no GST. My guess is retail it would be about $450ish.

UV Resistant

Does anyone know if the existing factory tint is UV resistant. If it is, I would be happy to leave it as is.

At a guess rudi i would have to say there is sime UV resistant level to it. Either for them to protect the interior as is or there could even be an ADR rule that says you have to have at x%. I'm just speculating though.

I have always liked something a bit darker myself. Then atleast with my Yellow car. After seeing what KillerBee has done with his, it just gives it a slightly meaner/sporting look IMHO.

I would have to agree with you on that. The dark tint on yellow would look fantastic. The two colours work well together.

Yup, thats one of the main reason why I went Yellow and not Black or Red (generally my preferred choices). I have to say even a slightly darker tint looks good on any colour, then you have general benefits of what the tint offers.

NewlyIMPORTed 07-07-2009 09:24 PM

i think that stock is way to bright. when i got in the car it was super hot and everyone could see into my car as i drove by so i went with 20% all around and 35% on the windshield

mrarroyo 07-08-2009 06:36 PM

The following link will provide the limits for the various states. Just thought you should all have it.

You must tell them to use extra heat by the mirrors or extended drying time before closing the door. HEre's why:

Upon arrival, I was told that some G37s have this issue as well. This is NOT something new but they didn't expect 370Z to have it. They are actually going to pay extra attention to this area on all incoming 370Zs. They quickly removed my old tint and put a brand new tint on - no questions ask. Their installation carries lifetime warranty :tup:. I have also noticed that instead of having a corner, they cut an oval shape border by the side view mirror area this time. So, if you're getting your tint done, tell them to pay special attention to this area and if possible cut an "oval" shape border instead of a corner. Also, tell them to use the heat gun for a little longer than usual and keep the door open (they may forget sometimes that our glass DOES go up/down )

Thanks for the info AK370Z, this is going to save a lot of people going for a second visit to their window tinter. Love the detail in the images, definitely not done with a point and shoot.

Tint and am radio NOT WORKING!!!

Just got my 370z tinted today by Sunguard,cost $331-(aussie $)

Problem is that after a discussion with the staff I was advized to go for the "non metalic" variety as the 370z has an internal aerial and the metalic type will interfere with the am radio.....so I go for the safe type,(35%-"Blackazz" )...looks great,but....:confused:

SURPRISE!!!......am radio does not work..!!!:shakes head:

and as I occassionally like to listen to some of the "shock-jocks",well,I can't no more...:icon23:
Has anyone else had this problem...
Maybe they put the metallic type on by mistake..?? how to tell ??
So I will let them know about this next week..:eekdance:

Cheers!!:tiphat:

When I had my Z tinted in Fort Lauderdale, Florida I was told of the same issue w/ the AM Radio Band so I chose the non-metallic film in charcoal 30% for the sides and 25% for the rear hatch.

How about your FM, is it working or did it just effect your AM?

Rudi.

If the window tinting company is good they will be able to ensure that opening and closing doors don't affect things. But I wouldn't simply buy the film and try to DIY. Richard from Kustom was able to advise me of the best solution for tinting my old Nissan and made sure the installation had no issues.
