any you could name that are really worth looking into?

RonRizz 01-12-2015 03:57 PM

My $$$ would be on smartphone connectivity being at the forefront.

Yep Kenwood. They have some sweet smart phone based stuff they showed us, should be out in a couple months...can't remember the model number, seen to much stuff. lol

RonRizz 01-12-2015 06:47 PM

I'm sure most major outfits will be stepping up their game. I know pioneer has the new lineup on their website.
and the DNN992 does look pretty awesome

Kenwood has been kicking A$$ the last few years, and have over 50% market share...

Looking at that Kenwood DNN992, it's got facebook and twitter? Do other decks support those apps? I hope you can't do that **** while driving...

I was hard core Pioneer as well for years, until I tried Kenwood out 3 years ago, very happy with them.

The only thing that looks promising is MHL 3.0 which will let you mirror your smartphone AND control it completely with your HU's touch screen. Everything else looks halfassed, I really don't understand what these car audio companies are all so happy about supporting 10-20 apps out of millions.

:iagree:

I don't even want the mirroring function. I want a HU that runs android with decent hardware. I want the Google Play store on the HU. Essentially a tablet with all the stereo abilities.

Yep, that's what I keep dreaming of kenwood doing. But they seem to be stuck with all the other major brands on sticking with proprietary software that can run only a few selected apps.

StanceZ37 01-13-2015 04:09 PM

know that i think about it all i want out of a hu is android connectivity and that'll also make my whole sound system sound badass!

Winn 01-31-2015 07:48 PM

I am wondering about mirroring google maps for nav and for going having to pay
the difference for one with nav. From what I can tell most current app sync is limited to what the HU supports as opposed to just a true mirror of the phone?

I assume that's what you guys are talking about with the upcoming new ones,
full mirror?

Thanks

ZWig22 01-31-2015 08:46 PM

I don't want the mirroring. I would like a full android operating system on the head unit. The mirroring is cool, but I don't want to have to use my phone to get what I want out of the head unit, especially for how much they are charging for these things.

Have you looked at the appradio 4?

Yeah, I have. Looks cool, but still doesn't have the Google play store or a full android system. =////

zmanelite 02-04-2015 09:00 AM

why not just install a tablet and run it off a Head unit ?
I have that setup in my car and it's awesome

Unfortunately many of us don't have the ability or tools to start chopping up the center console and fabing custom parts.

:iagree:

This is pretty much it. I'd like to keep my cubby hole too.

If I can't find any other options in a reasonable time or hear of anything coming out in the future then I'll probably go with the Tablet solution. I would rather buy an exhaust, HFC's or a G3 CAI before I spend money on custom fabrication. That's why I was looking for a head unit with tablet functions, because I'll install that myself.

StanceZ37 03-05-2015 04:18 PM

so does anyone know of any good 2015 HU that are out already from ces 2015

StanceZ37 03-06-2015 05:50 PM

You're right. If you can be playing with it while driving you ought to be shot. I don't think the fines can ever be made high enough to get people clued in. There's just too many dummies driving around looking at their crotches all the time.
OTOH, it sure p***** me off when I'm on the passenger side and I'm locked out of using 'search' on a GPS or music system while the car's moving. I mean, WTF's the point in having to pull over everytime you want to find the way to some place you want to go on-the-fly? There needs to be a work-around for that but locks the driver out. I understand you'd just have that many more dummies taking their eyes off the road if it wasn't absolutely foolproof.
It's getting pretty scary out there frankly. I really don't think the police enforce it enough. Here anyway. I can't speak for elsewhere, but judging by how many idiots I encounter everywhere I go I'm sure it's a target-rich environment anywhere there's a road.
