What's supposed to be in here?

I just bought this Z not too long ago. The owner told me this was done by the previous owner, he wasn't sure about it. There used to be a system down there, two speaker cut outs and I see some wiring.

I'm just wondering, is there something I can put there so the carpet won't fall through? I'm looking into getting a sub and an amp, is there a sub box I can buy that'll fit that hole? Or should I get one custom built? (I've never built a box before so I don't really want to attempt it :\

Here's what I'm talking about:

The big hole where my umbrella and jump cables are.

my guess would be a post of some sort???

What????

Vaibe 10-24-2014 10:41 AM

Ah, sorry guys. My post was moved and I guess it got messed up somehow. Anyway, I'm wondering what this space in my trunk is. One of the previous owners had a system installed here (note the two speaker cut outs) and I'm wondering if I can get a box to fit into there. I'm looking to install a single 10" sub probably. Would I need a custom box? If not, should I get a regular box? Would I need to cover that hole up?

That area was just filled with foam pieces when new. if you want to fit a box inside, you will probably have to go custom. There are pre-made boxes that will sit above that area out there, and cover the holes in the carpet.

You can also do something like this, so you dont take up that much room.. If thats an issue for you

Those are 8's though.. I dont know why he would have put a 6.5" mid right there.. that doesnt seem like it would really do anything.. Especially when he could have made a box just like this one with the 8's.

If I do that, what's the biggest sub size I can go? I'm looking into getting at least 1 10"

Were you able to fit the amp down there as well?

Its a foam piece that holds up the carpet

Nissan should be able to order it for you. Might want to put out a WTB in the for sale section and see if anyone is getting rid of theirs.

With proper box design, you get more air moving on a pair of 8's than a single 10. Why would you not like that?

1slow370 11-03-2014 07:49 PM

^low freq response?

Tadpole 11-03-2014 08:42 PM

What do you guys think about a couple of 6X9's there? Enough air space?

RonRizz 11-04-2014 04:13 PM

should be no problem whatsoever......

Hmmmmmm new spring project in the works. Anyone have a diy on the install? I would really like to get rid of my box and clean it up in the hatch area.

Nice try. Ears are not accurate instruments and Will hardly. Tell the difference between low freq. response of a pair of 8s and a single 10.

SwissCheese 11-04-2014 08:40 PM

Is there anyone (vendors or members) that sell boxes that are pre-made to fit in there?

a single large woofer will produce better low bass than a pair of small woofers, especially considering the xmax on 10" and larger subs usually far exceeds 8" offerings so your air volume moved calcs only work if the xmax on your 8's can match a 10, and since you are only buying one sub you can get a comp grade 10 for the price of two sub par 8's. i would personally do a pair of 10's or a single 12 myself. on an unrelated note my next setup is probably going to be one or two small subs purely for weight reasons in a light weight box. gonna try and keep it under 30lbs. it is also going to have to be easily removed.

I appreciate this but our ears are not accurate instruments and will take a sharp ear (someone with really sensitive hearing) to capture the low frequw cy response that is distinguishable and audible. So much so that noise created when driving the z or even the exhaust notes when driving the z will mask the low frequency response that you speak of.

I might have that piece lying around -- PM me an offer if interested?

I believe its P/n is 84978-1EA0A, a whopping $78 new before shipping... I certainly don't want that much.
