here goes. Is there an Audio 101 guide for the Z? I have viewed posts and DIY threads a little I must confess.

I just want to ask a simple few questions. In base Z, I can merely swap out the stock double DIN for any double DIN unit? I believe yes is the answer and perhaps some small gaps ? I still retain the stock surround?

If I purchase a double din unit do I need some sort of adaptor harness? Also, how would one rig up HD radio? I do miss that sometimes.

Thanks.

My intention is perhaps just replacing stock HU. with minimal wiring.

I think I've seen that discussed on here before but I can't remember where. :( IIRC, it all depends on the HU - some don't need a filler plate, some do.

Edit: If you just want better sound and aren't worried about more power or features, try changing the speakers. If that turns out to be not good enough, then look into a different HU.

I installed a clarion cx501 double din in my base with no kit and just used the stock HU mounts..perfect fit no noticeable gap that concerns me.

Hi, what do you mean used stock head unit mounts? Are all the harnesses that you pull off the stock HU just plug straight back into the aftermarket one? thanks.

No you're gonna need the wiring harness adapter/ant adapter to plug an aftermarket HU in there, but in the base (non-bose) 370zs you don't need a dash kit, an aftermarket 2DIN will fit in perfectly. Check out Crutchfield.com or your local Best Buy, they'll have what you need.

No I took the two metal mounts off the stock HU and just mounted them in the same place on my aftermarket HU. Wiring harness you need to buy an adapter kit.
