OEM Backup Camera

Is there a way to modify the backup camera so I can turn it on even when the car is not in reverse? I have found that it would be beneficial even when moving forward.....I have done some searches but have not found anything on the subject.

There is a vendor here that may have feature, I need the kit that allows cam, video and nav usage while driving. I think there was a switch option can't remember.

when you go into the hidden menu and select draw correct, you can leave it on and drive with rear camera on

I don't have the Nav system, so how do I do it????

You can activate it by going into the secret menu. Not really ideal though

How do you get to the secret menu without having NAV????

Where are you displaying the camera feed if you don't have nav?

If it's not on a HU with a setting (i.e. OEM nav or aftermarket DIN), then you will probably have to wire up a switch. The power will need to come from accessory power that is always on. The switch then activates the camera display instead of waiting for the reverse wire to activate it.

I'm guessing he's referring to the rearview mirror display. My '12 has a back-up camera that displays in the rearview mirror when you put it in reverse.

Same on my 11 Roadster. I bet the camera is wired to the reverse lights circuit.

This is what I was assuming. It should be very easy. Add a switch in line with the camera power that allows you to turn on/off the power independently of the reverse signal. You can leave the reverse signal connected so that it still works automatically when you put the car in reverse. This just adds the manual option for camera power when you're not in reverse.
