Backup Camera Suggestions

New around here but not to Z cars. I just installed a Kenwood DDX371 in my 2013 along with the XM tuner.. I am thinking of getting a backup camera to install with this unit..

What aftermarket camera's do yall suggest?

thanks!

I installed an aftermarket HU in my car and added a $25 ebay rearview camera. It is installed in a light housing that replaces the factory license plate light. It is not an unsightly black blox stuck on the back of the car, looks factory, and you don't notice it is there unless you look for it.

Pic of it in operation:

The camera I have is very similar to this one:

so does it replace the light completely or you still have a light?

Yes, to both.

It completely replaces the light housing. The replacement is split into two sections, one for the stock bulb socket you twist back in, and the other for the camera housing.

Sweet thanks!

So does that camera you posted fit the Z?

Thanks for the info and I like the concept, but for $12 I wonder what quality of camera that really is..

:icon17: i always wondered the same...

that said, i run a pioneer camera.

Yes, the link I posted fits the Z. As for the quality, the pic above was taken of my cheap Chinese camera in action. Here are a couple more.

The "haze" is the glare from the sun on my receiver screen in this one:

I installed it January 2013, and it is still working just fine. As for the Pioneer, most I have seen are a tiny black box, not built into the light housing, and cost 5-6 times more. I am just trying to not back over curbs and children, not make HD videos. It works just fine for that purpose.

I just installed a pyle camera that attaches to the plate mounting bolts. It's pretty decent, good night vision. I wish I got the white version though, so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Overall, I like it. 25 bucks at wally world.

The only thing I don't like about it is the bracket stick out way past the mounting bolts. Will prob trim it later or remove the camera from the bracket and weld it onto the license plate.

My first $12 ebay camera sucked, but my last $15 one works pretty well as you can actually use it in the dark.
