Blendmount? Anyone?

Hey guys,

Anyone use the BlendMount radar detector mounts? I guess more importantly the newest one for the Passport Escort Max? If I am understanding correctly the mount itself is $90 and to top that off, the hardwire kit to wire it directly to your mirror is another $30 on top of that. Kinda highway robbery :shakes head:

Now I realize there is a thread going right now that you can do this for around $10. Problem is I live in a small town that will be a pain to find the parts to do such an install and I guess if I am going to do it I will spend the money to do it right, just wanna see if anyone has purchased this since they came out with the mount recently??

Thanks in advance.

I have a blendmount for my v1. I also purchased the wire kit as we'll. both are pricey. Works great though!

I have the Blendmount on my Passport 9500ix & am satisfied with it but I found a wire kit on fleabay for $10. The wire kit can also be made from the end of an old telephone cord too (if you can solder), you will need to add a fuse.

i think there was some cheepo on amazon that works like the blend mount for like $30.

+ the old phone cord grandpa mentioned, the whole thing would only cost a fraction of the price of the blend mount.

but ive already spent hundreds on my V1's...another $100+ is not going to make much of a difference. lol just get the real thing.

I have the Blendmount for my Redline. Wired it into the center console using the Escort Direct Wire SmartCord. About $120 all told, which is not cheap, but I figured I splurged on the car & the radar detector, why stop short?
I don't have any pictures looking in from the outside, but it looks good from this angle.

I have both the Blendmount and the Mirror Tap. Both are HIGHLY recommended.

Ya wanna play, ya gotta pay.

Ditto

Blendmount works great. Expensive, but superior to the home-made things. Just do it. Buy once, cry once.

Thanks for all the awesome replies guys. So many good people on this site!

I kinda figured I splurged on the car why stop there like someone above mentioned, just needed a little reinforcement. Just ordered it.

Thanks again for the replies!

Same here. I bought one about a month ago with some lube.

Chuy 08-03-2014 11:39 AM

Buy it install it and never worry about it...

only problem I've had is sometimes my rear view camera doesnt work. Just wiggle the wires and off we go.

I'd still recommend both!

I finally found my wife's detector that has been in a box for a few years. I just picked up the mount and tap! If you buy from their site, use the coupon code "Amazon". It will price match their Amazon price. The code took $16.90 off of my total.

KY because of the price or oil for the car?

RedShifter 10-23-2014 06:19 PM

Just got my blendmount in today. Can't believe I paid $80 for the thing, but it does make for a clean install. Now gotta figure out how to hardwire it with the supplied direct wire adaptor that came w my V1

tommyguns 10-23-2014 07:52 PM

Have it, it's awesome. Nice and solid, has never moved since the initial install.

Grindkiezer 10-23-2014 07:54 PM

el cheapo rearview mirror mount for passport 9500ix

RedShifter 10-28-2014 05:37 PM

Hardwired the V1 this past weekend, was pretty easy I just tapped into the power wire from my radio. I did cut the little connector from the red wire that came with the V1. I couldn't understand their instructions so I just went with what I knew.

I have a blend mount with my 9500. It is great, bought it used from a member. Not sure if it is just me, but I tend to loose the GPS signal more then without it. Maybe it is the blend mount puts it too close to the windshield strip.

aszyd 10-29-2014 11:56 AM

By "strip" do you mean an aftermarket tint strip, or the speckled dots behind the mirror?

If it is a tint strip, just go get it redone with higher quality film. When I got mine done, I got 3M Color Stable because it supposedly does not block signals. That being said, I did not do a window strip, not my style.

Quote:

3M Color stable film is a high performance non metalized and non dye based film alternative. This means the film will never fade and will not interfere with signals in your car such as cell phone, GPS, and satellite. This film also blocks a significant amount of heat, up to 57% of the total solar energy.
If you don't like 3M, I'm sure Llumar, or your preferred tint brand also has a non-metallic tint.

Speckled dots.

So I finally got around to installing my BlendMount. Overall a pretty easy install and looks super clean as opposed to just having it suctioned to the windshield.

Comparing my install to a few of the photos others have posted, my install looks similar in the sense that the radar detector itself points towards the passenger headlight versus pointed straight ahead.. I realize this is my OCD getting the best of me as the detector itself has 360 degree protection. Just wondering if it gets to anyone else like it does me.

Just play with the moveable mirror mount 'post' to get the detector looking straight ahead. I had the same issue with my Blendmount and V1.

I got the blendmount, passport Max, and smartcord (which I modified a bit. Also **** yeah employee discounts) I love it but I think I gotta tighten the mount cause my detector goes bouncy bouncy on any bump.

Rawb474 08-04-2015 08:15 PM

Just a word of caution, don't buy the cheap version that is sold on Amazon. It goes for about $45 for the mount and direct wire cable. I got mine for the Max and the mount itself seems fine, but the radar simply slides into it and doesn't lock. So when you hit a bump or a sharp turn, it will actually slide off. I'm getting a refund on this and i would definitely recommend buying the real blend mount.

V1 and Blendmount

With my setup the weak link is easily the stock V1 mount that screws into the Blendmount. The BM is solid, the V1 part of it not so much.
