Power wire gauge through firewall?

Hey guys I had to replace my original Z and need to install another audio system. While I was planning out the setup/wire runs I forgot to take into account the gauge of the power wire through the firewall for my amp.

I spec'd it with a 4ga kit but can anyone tell me definitively if this will fit through the grommet in the firewall behind the battery? It's been two years since I last had to do this and can't for the life of me remember what I ran last time. I just perused the install videos as a refresher and I'm sure it's listed in there somewhere but I must have missed it. I suspect I should be OK but confirmation would give me some peace of mind. If it's not going to fit I'll order another amp kit immediately.

Thanks!

OK I started doing my install today and I'm totally perplexed. Did Nissan nix the grommet on the passenger side for '12 models? I know I ran the wire using this method in my '09, but I have removed the plastic shroud and the battery in my '12 and I can't for the life of me find the damned thing.

I managed to run this wire into the cabin in less than 10 minutes in my first Z. Today I've been trying to figure it out for an hour with zero progress.

Thanks Big I know I can go through there, but I could have sworn that there was another unused grommet directly behind the battery. Maybe I was just smoking crack at the time? :icon14:

This is the only one I know of that close to the battery and is very easy to use, Maybe on the other side in the drivers area but could be more work than having something this easy.

I stopped screwing around and just used the big grommet in the pic. Wasn't able to get the whole install done this afternoon but I did make a decent dent with the head unit and amp. Thanks for the assistance!

Will a 0 gauge fit through the grommet? Completely forgot to check before ordering the wire kit.

Yes. It's a bitch to make it fit, but it will. I didn't even cut mine a bit, just forced it

A little lube works wonders

Minhtin 07-29-2014 04:14 PM

Not sure how I feel about lube in this application lol.

Rubbing a candle (or other waxy product) on the wire is usually very effective and much neater than using a wet lube.

Humm think I got some sex wax laying around. I'll give that a try. Thanks.

spray bottle with water and dish soap is what I go to.
