Using headunit rear amp channel
Hi folks.
I've upgraded my headunit and put in some MTX 6.5" cheap component speakers which don't have a separate crossover/filter box. The speakers have a cap and inductor for passive filtering. Right now I've got them running using the stock base speaker wiring (which I assume is running them in parallel). So my 17w RMS per channel is probably getting halfed to the woofer and tweeter. Wouldn't they sound much better if I ran the woofers off the rear channel and the tweets off the front channel? Car audio is only stereo anyway. I could then have 17w going to each speaker and use the fader to dial back the tweets from overpowering the woofers sound level wise. Any issues doing this? Thanks for any input or advice. |
Sound better? not necessarily. Get more power to each driver?? more than likely yes.
Its a variable between the drivers impedance, and the cap/inductor used to filter the intended driver. There are many combinations of driver/filter that can be used to present a 4 ohm load to your source unit, and it can get extremely complicated. The easiest answer would be to get out your Multi-meter, and check the resistance of the woofer, and its filter separately, as well as your tweeter, and its filter separately. If both check out to be 4 ohms, you're good to go. You can hook them up as you described with no issues whatsoever. |
