Ok cool man thanks for all your input with this! I really appreciate it. I'm gonna look back into it on my next day off haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I had the 8000NEX in my old car, and then transferred it myself into my 370 as soon as all the parts had come in. I originally bought this head unit for the CarPlay feature, but ever since the upgrade, I have barely used it. The 8000NEX is a really awesome head unit, and it does many things better in its native UI than CarPlay. The navigation, for one, is SOOOO much better than Apple's maps.

factory navigation has just about always seemed like a big rip since at least the Pioneer AVIC's hit. I knew that going in, of course, but would have hoped the Nismo Tech would have been more GTR multi-function display with more performance parameters than just multi-media and nav that it is. Include Navigation to be complete perhaps for those who don't have smartphones or whatever, but going forward, should be an option to mirror the phone display & use Google or Waze or if some poor fool is feeling brave, Apple Maps. :D
XM is right up there on the rip/sub model. Rear visibility is so limited that even without laws requiring it, backup cameras should've be standard on all but the basic trim anyway. The biggest disappointment is that it's the last gen system instead of one of the NissanConnect things that would let you use some mobile functionality/app support. Regular Nismo 6MT are much fewer and farther in between than the Nismo Tech which tells you how the margins are and where they're getting their money. As far as Apple, I much prefer Android though will go to something else if it should better. Nissan should stay agnostic and set to a standard (MirrorLink for example) that is not just Android. Apple has a contempt for their mobile user base they used to not have for their computer buyers but I am not fond of Siri. What they do tends to work well but only within the rather narrow scope of what they intend you to do. There is jailbreak, of course... |
NissanConnect is a joke, Nissan Navigation is a joke. The greenest intern at Apple could have designed both product interfaces better.
The vast majority of car buyers have ZERO interest in aftermarket stereo. Support for CarPlay and the Android equivalent was Nissan's best chance to bring functional electronics to the cockpit in an OEM product and they booted it. Ridiculous. |

I would expect to see CarPlay and MirrorLink support in the next generation of cars from most makes. They're always quite a bit behind the leading edge for both cost and support reasons as well as probably liability concerns from the bean counters & lawyers.

not on my z, but i have the proclip base for my G, so thought i would just slide it in that when i get in the car. Ive yet to replace the 4100BT with the 4100NEX |
Usually leave my phone in my pocket. I have been thinking of getting a Qi charger and leaving it in the console for wireless charging.
