Double din LCD screen or multi-line display

Hmm, obviously this is a purely preferential subject but my budget is no more than $300 for a double din head unit. I have never owned a head unit with a monitor but I always thought they were "cool".

I'm worried about the longevity and ease of operation of all the

I have always been of fan of the simple but effective approach. If these screens under $300 tend to have a lot of issues than I am totally happy with getting a double din head unit that looks like a the factory head unit with a multi-line display. Simple but effective.

These are the two head units I have in mind. Which one would you get?

JVC KW-R900BT In-Dash Car Stereo Receiver w/ Bluetooth & Pandora (I like the idea of the 3 5volt pre amp outlets!! WOW!)

Kenwood DDX470 6.1" LCD DVD/MP3/USB Car Receiver w/ Bluetooth

Not to throw a wrench in your plans, but I'd look at something like a Pioneer X4500BT for $250-300. 7" screen and feature rich.

Out of the two you proposed, I prefer the Kenwood.

I have the jvc kW nt 300. Has pandora and by hooking up your iPod you also have I heart radio and all the stations on iTunes Radio. I still have the cubby on my base 2009. I have the iphone in there with the wiring to connect it to the radio. The Mac is sooo much more accurate than the tom tom I had before. That being said, I wish I would have ponied up for the one that had the had channels on the higher priced model. Orlando has crap for normal radio stations.

Both are great get what you think you will like, considering JVC bought out kenwood I would say either one would be a good choice. But if I had to choose kenwood.

Wony a 7'' require modifications to fit? The regular 6.1/6.2 " screens just "drop in".

You choose the kenwood bc of the screen?

That may well be correct. The dash kits are pretty inexpensive; however, and can be had with antenna adapter and wiring harness.

GalletGun 11-16-2013 12:09 PM

So for a 7" headunit you only need a dash kit? No other modifications are needed on the car such as fitting the headunit onto the factory bracket?

Why do I need an antenna adapter and harness? Doesnt the antenna adapter come with a aftermarket headunit and the metra harness is only needed if still using factory speakers?

Uh....you might be right. I hadn't really thought out my reply; thinking things out really isn't my strong point. I'm a lover not a thinker.

BAF should chime in shortly.

Great. You got me really interested in the pioneer x4500bt but i want to make sure all the modification i need to do is use a scosche dash kit. Not interested in cutting up the car or dash kit just to use an 1" bigger screen. I can get it for $200.

Looks clean. Is that the regular 370z scosche dash kit.

Still waiting on BAF to chime in on the required modificstions needed to fit a 7" screen. :-(

Keep us posted on you audio build. I'm curious how it goes and how you like it, whatever you select.

I think I'm done with mine. 6x9s in the front, 6.5s in the shelf behind the seats, tweeters in the dash and B pillar spaces, 2 12" kicker subs in a zenclosure, amps, bu camera, and the X4500BT of course.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/17/pu7u8yhe.jpg
^^ Oh, and this time, I decided to squirrel-away the amps.
