Kenwood Owner

Had a Kenwood DNX 5140 installed today. It is easy to navigate through the menus. GPS boots quickly and the DVD look good. The Nav has good pick-up even installed out of sight.

Only drawback with Kenwood units is that it does not play DVD-audio disks.

The higher up units do play dvd audio. Or you can just buy dvd concerts and listen to them.

Almost any of the double din dvd playing head units are capable of dolby digital surround and dts as well. I do not own one so I can not help with how it would sound in the car.

Big, I’m just curious, you give a lot of advice on this web site and I’ve read you installed a Kenwood head unit and a fog light on AK’s 370Z. You were also flown out to the west coast at the expense of a 370Z owner for an install. What do you have in your 2003 Honda Civic? This is what I want in my 370Z !

LOL well my plan was:

Audioson Lrx 5.1 amp
Image Dynamics Q 12 inch sub
Image Dynamics XS 6.5 components
Alpine cda-9887 or something like it.

But considering I am selling it and getting a Z it will pretty much be the same setup except it will be a alpine double din head unit instead of the single din. Here is a thread I made about it. Some say to go with this or that and that is fine. But a like a warm real sound that is not harsh and not overkill with bass. ID speakers and audison amps are the best IMO. Thank you for asking. If you need any help of have any questions just ask.

Also I was planning on going "active" instead of using the crossovers that the id's come with but that will not be possible without some more work with a double din. Such as a external possessor. But I doubt I will do it now. If by spring I do not sell my car I will start work on it once again.

They are concerts basically on dvd that you can watch. DVD audio disks are also available you just have to look for them but if yours is not made for them than it will not work just the concerts will work.

What do you have in your Civic right now?

bigaudiofanat 12-29-2009 06:59 PM

Well I took most of the stuff out and put a normal alpine head unit cda104 and a set of polk momo components with no rears in. "yes no rear speakers" It was just sort of nice but nasic for the purpose of selling it. Also most of the car is dynamated.

Wow, no amp and subwoofer?

bigaudiofanat 12-29-2009 07:13 PM

As I said it is for sale. I am currently not driving it. It just sits in the drive waiting to be sold. If I do not sell it by spring I will start putting what I wanted into it and worry about the Z later. So that is why no amp or sub are in there now.

Ok, thanks! I’ve owned Polks and Alpine before and I really like the Polks speakers. I guess I’ll keep researching! Thanks Big!!

No problem check those image dynamics out the polks are good as well.

Dvd audio disks

For thoe interested in Kenwood DNX 5140. I does play DVD audio disks. I erroneously had a SACD disk thinking it was a DVD Audio disk. I do not think any car DVD/CD/MP3 unit's play SACD disks.
