Rockford Fosgate Speaker Install Help!

Hey guys so I am in the process of installing some Rockford Fostgate Punch P165s in the doors and I can't figure out what the instructions want me to do. 2 out of 3 holes line up, but I cannot get the third. It is just barely missing the hole. The instructions are also pretty confusing (for me at least).

Here are the directions I am following.

Here is the adapter ring

Now the screws are a little too small for the stock holes so I am guessing it is why they want me to use the speed clips.

Problem is, I cannot clip the clips onto anything. It is just too tight. It says something about drilling but I honestly have no idea where I should drill. As you can see, the adapter has plenty of holes and I can't see the point if the screws wont even tighten. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Also which is positive and which is negative? Green and brown.

I had a similar problem with similar adapters so I just routed out the third hold with my Dremmel until it fit. I guess I didn't get the absolute perfect adapters. I didn't use those clips though and I added a couple more screws per side to really secure the adapter plus sound damper all over the speaker area.

You're not going to run new wires?

Thanks for the feedback. I am not running new wires. I am going to cut the adapter and then crimp it to the new speakers. I just don't now which is + and -. Green seems like it would be positive but I'd rather not guess.

I guess its a blue or green and a purple?

If your running components you need to run new speaker wire. If your running a coaxial (not recommended) than make sure you disconnect your dash tweeter.

As for your bracket the adapter plate had a tad bit of play in it you can push it over to the hole as I have done. Use your factory screws to secure the bracket. Crutchfeilds instructions are meh anymore.

Your polarity you can found on a sticky i believe.

Got the polarity. Bigaudiofan, I am doing coax and what if I left the tweeters connected?

Problems. The tweeters have built-in (sort of) crossovers.

I originally started out on a similar path to what you're describing and thankfully, I bit the bullet and ran new wires and full speaker replacement. Never regretted the decision. Not to mention it's another one of those "Hey! I did this" moments.

Run new wire, you will be happy you did. If you dont with in a month you will be. (work smarter not harder)

Ok finally got everything hooked up. Anyone have any tips on getting the door panel back on? I can't line that thing up worth a d@mn. Just bending the plastic pins...

For one the sound will be weird having a quality tweeter down in the door and a stock tweeter up in the dash. Second different ohm ratings this can damage your head unit in the long run. I highly recommend disconnecting them and let your new tweeter in the coaxial do the work. If you do not like the sound time to get a set of components.
