Complete Audio Setup w/ Custom Box

This weekend the install on my system was completed. I ended up going with the following parts:

Kenwood DNX890HD
Metra Axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel controls
Kenwood CMOS-210 Backup Camera

Focal PS 165 Component Speakers
JL 500/3 Amp

2 x 8" JL 8W3

I got a hookup on a really bad *** box from my friend that works at Custom Sounds here in Austin, TX. Check out the pics below for details. Also, thanks to dsevast for the inspiration on the box placement.

Nice man nice. I have sent other boxes there and don't really like it. Maybe with the double sub it looks more symmetrical or something. I live in Austin myself a may have to try this out in the near future. Probably would go with almost same exact setup focal and all.

I meant to say I have seen other boxes in that spot. : )

Custom Sub Box

I fabricated a sub box out of balsa core fiberglass with a gray gelcoat finish to fit in the same space of the 370Z a couple of years ago. The sub box was a seal sub enclosure designed for a single 8" sub (Alpine SW-84) with 0.32 interior net cu. ft. The net cu. ft. is the interior space accounting for the sub volume. In my sub box, the interior cu. ft. was only on one-half of this space and the other one-half housed the amp and signal processor. The sub, amp, and signal processor was design to be drop in. The power cable, ground, cables, could be quickly disconnected for easy removal. I added some felt under the rear hatch mat to raise it up to be flush with the sub box height.

I recall that the JL8w3v3 sub recommends 0.375 net interior cu. ft. for each sub. Did you have sufficient net interior cu. ft. for the two JL subs? How does the subs sound?

8w3 require .3 cubic feet each if I recall. I believe they were able to get very close to .6 cubic feet for both subs. Sounds great so far!

Looks horrible. :p
Now come to Houston so I can hear it and then want to upgrade mine.

Wow, I love that enclosure! Can they more easily churn out another one now that they've made yours?

Looks great

Is there someone I can contact at Custom Sounds to inquire about something like this? Or is your buddy willing to help out another Z owner? :tiphat:

Glad you guys like the box. I'm not going to comment on the price since my friend is a manger and was helping me out.

If you'd like to see what they do for you, call Custom Sounds on North 183 and ask for Clinton.
