Car DVR - Dash Cam

Anyone here running a dash cam in their Z? After someone did this to my last 4Runnerhttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/27/e8e3uqa3.jpg and then departed the scene, I got one of thesehttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/27/e3e2e6uq.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/27/qetu5yna.jpg

It seems worthwhile for the same reasons I purchased one for the 4Runner, but also because I noticed my 370 attracts quite a number of persons interested in contests of acceleration. One of these said parties lost traction departing a light and managed to cut across my lane and onto the curb. I've caught some odd things with the camera I own.

If anyone of you have experience with dash cams and like a particular model, please post.

Thanks

I'm interested in this. There was a thread started a while ago about these thin gs but it seams to have fizzled out.

How is the video quality of the one you use? Does it overlay speed?

Video quality is surprisingly good for what is now a $35 camera. This model also has a corded rear camera that you can mount wherever you like (you could even use it as a backup camera). This one doesn't have speed (no GPS), but I have a friend who has one that does and it works well. This records audio, which I like having to possibly record license plate numbers or in the event of a traffic stop. Of course, in some states, there are some recording and privacy issues (States without single party consent), but it is only one button to turn audio or video off.

With a 32 GB card, it can hold a lot of video. It has a G sensor to auto protect files in the event if an accident.

I was looking for a setup that you could attach multiple cameras to (Front/back/both sides) that records real-time. I would think something like that could be built and connected to an iPad or something similar.

Drive-time here in Raleigh is insane sometimes and it would be fun to have some of it on video.

Are there any with a feature where it only keeps 5 or 10 minutes worth of video and actively deletes anything past that?

I'd like a hands off system unless something happens so the memory card never fills.

I saw this article DIY: Turn your GoPro into a 24-hour dash cam [w/video] - Autoblog

You set the segment times (1, 5, 10 min) and it overwrites the oldest file. You can have many days worth of normal driving stored, so it is (like a Ronco device) set it and forget it. You can guard a file from deletion or over write by pushing a button.

I am considering to get one, how about the video quality? I googled this one looks the same as you attached, is it possible for you to attach some video demos on this item?

i'd like to get one that has enough resolution to record the plate numbers. most dashcams are low resolution.

lets see some of the "odd" video  I wear a gopro when riding my motorcycle more for catching some stupidity. I like the idea as i was seriously (no bullshit) framed by a detective for racing a motorcycle. I would have loved to have video showing that there was NO WAY i was racing a friggin motorcycle...

It'd be pretty awesome getting my hands on one of these..

Would it be possible to record at night, when my car is more likely to be vandalized?

Some have motion detection and that might work. You could leave it on constantly, but I'm not sure what that would do to your car battery.

That is a problem, but with the audio on you can read off the plate number in a pinch. Mine will get plate numbers, but you have to be close.
