iphone 5 and 2009 370z
Tried doing a search for iphone 5 issues with the 370 and got a bunch of junk hits. "posted from my iPhone"
I have a 2009 370z and it has the ipod 30 pin connector. I've had friends plug their iPhones (4 and earlier) into it and play music previously no problem. I just got an iPhone 5 which uses the new lightning connector which requires an adapter to plug into the old 30 pin connector. I can't get my iPhone 5 to play music in my car using the OEM 30 pin connector with the adapter to the lightning connector, the radio just says "no iPod detected". Are others able to play music with their iPhone 5 in the z? |
I don't have this problem, because I have an aftermarket audio set-up, but having worked in the audio industry for a couple years, I can tell you you'll probably need a software update to the head unit.
People with audio equipment for iPods pre-2008 had the same issues when Apple did a significant software/firmware change then too. (I used to work for Bose, so if you have a Bose audio system, that's probably the deal.) It's annoying as hell. Try contacting Nissan. Don't go through Bose's customer support. For car audio they're useless. |
I contacted Nissan a while back about a firmware update for the head unit for the '09 models and was told that they do not have one, nor will they ever produce one. Apparently, they ditched the software that was used for the '09's when the new navigation system came out for the '10's. At that time they ceased to support the system used in the '09 models.
Basically, if you have an '09 (like me) you are stuck with the firmware originally loaded into the unit. If you have an '10 or later, there are updates to the system. Very, very frustrating but Nissan seemed to have no interest whatsoever in supporting our system. |
No solution
Brother, that was the issues with the 5, no audio interface output compatibility |
So much for nissans deal on including an iphone connecter lol now they have changed the phone connection lmao. Sorry *** apple. The reason why you never take their route. They are so limited with restrictions. Not universal.

bleh, well my friend's heart was in the right place. I've never owned an apple product prior to the iPhone and I've always been pretty adamant about how an open market will always be better. I've been a big pc gamer for a long time now so macs have always been useless to me as well. The phone was a gift from a very nice friend, I think he got tired of making fun of my LG env2 flip phone lol.
I guess if I was really annoyed about this I could probably try to get nissan to release their source code for the 09 navs since its discontinued and try to reverse engineer it. But I'm a pretty lazy engineer... |
I personally hate the interface, and it doesn't charge my phone, and with the adapters to make it charge and cables to make it longer I got sick and fúcking tired...
I use the red and white now (AUX) |
I think the only options you have if you have the Touring Pkg? is to either rip all your music which is a pain or use the cf memory card slot.
I have a 16g card that I put all my music on and listen from there. So you do have options to listening to your fav music. It's not the cars fault the technology keep changing. |

I thought it only recognized 512MB and like 96 folders/128 songs or something stupid... Another thing I have to check out on your car, LOL |

Possible Solution
I have a 09 and I use an old iPod classic just for my Z.
I leave it in the car always plugged in so that I have all of my music available at all times. If you have an old iPod sitting around, load it up, leave it in the Z, and call it done. |
Would a newer factory head unit from 10,11,12,or 2013 fit the harness of our 2009 Z's

Most of the cheaper convertors don't' work with Audio! that's why the head unit won't detect it.

I have an 09 370z and bought an Iphone 5 since the day it was released. At first I bought the 30 pin extended cable and it wouldn't work so I returned it to Apple and got the regular lightning to 30 pin adapter. So far its been almost 5 months and it works PERFECT. The Iphone 5 will work with the adapter. Its been working on mine. I use the Ipod interface on the navigation system and I can even scroll thru my playlists of songs on my phone and control it from there.
|
I would return the adapter and exchange it for another one to see if that works. Thats what happened to me at first. I think with Apples recent updates on the phone I noticed that now I can control all the music from my phone and navy screen. Before the Iphone 5 would say something like "connected to player" and you wouldn't have the freedom of doing that. So now you can have the best of both worlds. Let me know how it goes.

Hi sorry to Hijack this thread, I am from the UK and have a 2009 370Z GT with sat nav but I only have a headphone jack rather than a Ipod connector, did you fit this yourself?
I want Ipod intergration so I can control it from the radio unit but struggling to find anything :( |

In your center console, what do you have beside the cigarette lighter thing? |
Ok I bought a 32 gig CF card to replace the iPod, because the 2nd cupholder is consumed/replaced by the seriously stupid large iPod connector header. I thought I could put quite a few songs on there and have a decent to go library. BUT, tonight I found out - after reading a few posts on here, that there is a size limit. The limit is 512 songs, they're all in the root of the card so I know there are no folders, etc. Well I guess back to the old trusty iPod. Now I have to figure out how to get the large clunky plug (why they couldn't use a USB plug I'll never know) out of the 2nd cupholder cubby and into some other space that won't interfere with the cupholder.

I took that POS out the first day They switched to USB 2010+ Oh, and talk to triples. He said he uses a CF card with more than 512 songs |
Solved
Hey guys I solved the iPhone 5 to 30 pin connector problem. You need to buy 2 things.
1. Apple 30 pin to Lightning Adapter: Lightning to 30-pin Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.) 2. Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter: Amazon.com: Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter for iPod and iPhone (Black): MP3 Players & Accessories Connect the charging adapter to the 30pin in the center console, attach the Lightning adapter to the Charging Adapter and because this will charge the iPhone it will see it as a connected iPod. Enjoy your music! P.S. Still not BlueTooth streaming, I've tried a ton of stuff but at least now the 5 can be plugged in. |

Best solution, Radio Shack headphone to RCA (red/white) cable, and a car charger |
