Stereo help.

I have a Polk Audio db1240 12in sub, and a 12 zenclosure box. What else do I need in order to run that to my stock head unit? I do not have the Bose kit. Any help appreciated.

for starters an amp, with amp wiring kit, and a line out converter

Yea a figured but do you know how big an amp? I heard rumors that if you don't get the right amp for your sub, you could blow the sub.

cheshirecat 10-12-2012 03:29 PM

those are some interesting rumors

It is not so much "right amp" as it is a quality amp as well as proper tuning.

well can you point me in a general direction as in what exactly to get?

RonRizz 10-12-2012 04:19 PM

an amp in the 300 to 500 watt range will do you nicely

Vertigo 10-12-2012 04:25 PM

Ihino, make sure you look at the watt rating by RMS.

lhinojos 10-12-2012 04:30 PM

I know the sub is at 320 rms. so should I look for an amp that ranges around 330rms? And is there different kinds of wiring kits? And any brands I should look for?

Vertigo 10-12-2012 04:37 PM

I have used RF and Stinger wiring kits in the past and they have done the job nicely.
Go with 4AWG.

RonRizz 10-12-2012 04:37 PM

I saw it rated at 360 rms a general rule is amp should be between 80% and 150% of your subs rated power.
Amp kits are a crap shoot. Stick with the better known brands, and you'll get a decent kit.
They are rated for your systems power, so look in that range as well. I would recommend installing a kit with at least 4 gauge power wire, which would give you the option to upgrade/add amps later.

Yeah it is 360 I read it wrong lol well I'm not exactly a genius in the audio world so what brands should I be looking for?

Alpine amps are a safe bet.
