Base Model Door Speaker Swap

Well, After many searches, I found much of what I was in for here in other threads, but what I didn't see I figured I would add... :tiphat:

First of all, thanks to everyone for posting threads like this that got me as far as I got. Took me about 1 hour 30 minutes... But then after showering and getting ready for test drive :driving: realized I hadn't FULLy connected door handle cable for exterior on driver side door(did this one first), so add 15 miutes for brain fart

The first Speaker took an hour, the second about half that time and worth the $39+ tax the stereo shop wanted and the Benefit of knowing how my baby was treated! :happydance:

Here are the Speakers I decided to go with after hours of research... I couldn't find any speakers with a better Frequency response for what I was trying to match with the Deck i'm looking at...

Pioneer TS-A1684R A-Series 6 1/2" 4-Way

tuk 08-11-2012 05:22 AM

how does it sound?

OMGiGOTaZ 08-11-2012 07:29 AM

The sound is Night and Day different, although I expect better once the new deck is installed. I can actually crank it up and hear no distortion now!

If your looking for Speakers that add bass, these are not for you, I'm dropping 2 12's in the back so I wanted full sounding Mids/highs up front and couldn't even find many component sets with better frequency response than these, seeing as many use components with the tweeters in the dash

Did you disconnect the tweeter from the dash? I recommend you do.

OMGiGOTaZ 08-11-2012 09:22 AM

Swapping out with Focal tweeters/crossovers in the dash today hopefully, i'll post pics!

Oh, and the Head Unit!

i was thinking about replacing the stock bose speakers, but from what i have been reading its too fiddly. will these pioneer speaker work with the stock bose head unit?

just wondering how was the fitment? was there much tweaking required? and do you have to buy brackets?

also which tweeter did you decide to go with?

thanks

took some more pics of the deck install

based on many threads I thought I would be ok with the factory dash and mount, which did work, however there is a small gap, nothing terrible.

Realized I forgot to put final pics of the Amp & Wiring finished, will get those up tomorrow hopefully. Decided to mount it behind the Passenger seat. Worked well for running the wires and keeping everything neat!

Incidentally the Infinity Kappa set fits the Z and is relatively cheap.

Just out of normal couriosity, will a 6x9 fit in the door if you remove the non-bose plate and will magnet size and mounting depth be an issue?
