Pioneer AppRadio 2

Im having the Pioneer AppRadio 2 installed in my Z and my girlfriends impreza tomorrow morning at a local audio place and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. Ive searched online and have read only good things about it. Any feedback would be appreciated. thanks

I've been looking at reviews for that for a week. It looks awesome and installs flush into the dash so I'm told. I'm a little hesitant because of user reviews regarding ease of use and start up routines. It's iPhone and Android compatible, but like all things, mainly designed and better functioning for the iPhone.

I keep reading "Awesome idea, poor execution" on many user reviews. though there are some positive ones... I see an even mix between 1 and 5 stars which is frightening. its looks can hypnotize so be careful.

Looking forward to professional opinions rather than average user reviews though

The stuff I've read about it has been mixed at best. Seems everyone likes the concept but there are quite a few issues and spotty support. There really aren't many apps for it.

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you end up getting one.

So anyupdate on the install? How does the ipod scrolling move? Is it glitchy or smooth/quick when scrolling.

bigaudiofanat 08-31-2012 11:22 AM

Mixed reviews I have read.

Installed one last weekend TONS of wires come with it, and you have to know which ones to use depending on what your plugging in.

I prefect having more than just a radio as an option but I am old fashioned.

I have been so busy I forgot to update this lol. I did install the app radio. I absolutely love it. The scrolling throu songs and phone contacts is extremely fast. When watching a video, you can scroll to any part of the video and it plays immediately. Not even a second of lag. The screen resolution is amazing when watching videos as well. My nieces love watching Netflix when I pick them up from school. It also fits very flush in the 370z dash. Zooming in while the maps feature is running is also super responsive. One really cool thing about this radio is that they continue to have updates improving the software. However there are a few minor features I hope they implement in a future update. The home screen isn't very customizable. You can only choose between 5 (I think) backgrounds that come with the radio software. There aren't very many apps available. However some third party apps do work with it such as pandora, spotify, and netflix. When you search for a business with the app radios it will find it (similar to the iPhones map) but the phone number doesn't appear.
Overall I'm very happy with it thou. I love having google maps at my fingertips in the Z. Its awesome i can search for a restaurant or any business and just route a destination from my navi. Wether im zooming on maps or scrolling thru my music library, its very responsive.

Thanks for the review of your app radio AreJay, sounds really cool, I have done some reading on the unit.

Would love to see some pics of yours in your car, please post some when you get a chance.

Thanks

Sorry for ignorance but is data/internet required for Google map?

You have to keep the phone connected to use any app, the phone acts as a computer and your app radio acts as the display.

I was just going to ask if its going to be able to connect with the new IPHONE 5 connector but just learned an adapter for the large pin charger to the new one will be available in-case pioneer takes a while to produce the new wiring.

Just make sure your not running this thing off the bose system, with 2 volt pre outs it will not sound right. Also fi your looking for a sound quality setup avoid it unless your using a sound processor down the line. The higher pre out will allow for less noise and better sound quality.

Well, since everything I have read about the bose system and its pain in the *** to replace, what head unit do you recommend that is more plug and play with better sound quality?

Im not very audio savvy so if its still possible to use this head unit without a huge headache to make sure its installed correctly, is there any directions I can give the installer that will make everything run smooth?

LOL ya bose is a PITA to replace. You can choose any head unit as long as the pre output voltage is 4 volts or higher, anything lower you will not get a lot of volume and a lot of noise out of the speakers.

Alright, so, "pre output voltage is 4 volts installer guy!" and i'm good. Just curious, what do you think the sound quality would be like vs the old non nav bose headunit? I also read you were making a trip to socal this november maybe I could jump on that band wagon.

Your more than welcome to jump in on the trip. You will have some sound improvement over the factory radio.

The things I've study about it has been combined at best. Seems everyone prefers the idea but there are quite a few problems and irregular assistance. There really aren't many applications for it. I'd really like to listen to your ideas if you end up getting one.

Is there any solution to the 2V pre-out problem with Bose amps?

Well you could use a voltage booster however I'm not really sure how they will effect sound quality.

Another option is to run your pre outs to a audio control to boost the signal voltage and would probably not ruin the quality.
