base model, no rear sound?

I'm guessing something isn't working right? I only have front speakers. Fader on full rear gives no sound at all.

your speakers are fine, its just, well you dont have rear speakers :rofl2:

edeeZee 06-20-2009 07:29 PM

Hence the "base model" designation. You get what you pay for.

Don't get me wrong, the 370 is an awesome car, that's why I got one. But it's not really an expensive car relatively speaking. Top of the line v-6 Accords, v-6 Camrys, and the likes cost close, and sometimes even more.

$30-40K may not be cheap for a new car, but it sure ain't considered "expensive" nor high-end these days.

I noticed mine were blown from the factory too. Weird. LOL.

All kidding aside I also have a base and not only are there no rear speakers, there's not even any wiring run for you to add some easily.

nogoodname 06-20-2009 08:20 PM

what the...no rear speakers at all.......that's messed up !!
at least they should have some cheapo speakers in the rear...

blackbird 06-20-2009 09:09 PM

Thanks for the info. I just thought it wasn't working or my ears were going. OK, upgrade on the to do list. In 1993 I paid 35K for my 300ZX. Sorry to say it but 30K is not big bucks these days.

Its not a big deal, as I am going aftermarket anyway, and now I don't have to make another trip to the dealer, but its really cheesy that they have a head unit with a fader that has nothing hooked to the rears. Why have the fader then?

initialgemini 06-20-2009 10:15 PM

funny thing is that they have a mock speaker housing in the rear... At least it can look like you have rear speakers.

takimbe 06-20-2009 11:01 PM

3.5" speakers fit back there. when i did my audio install, I had the guys install 2 boston 3.5"s back there and now I have rear sound. sucks cause you have to wire it under the door sills to get back there.

the stock speakers are paper ones anyways, total and utter crap. at least on the base model they are.

roptics 06-21-2009 11:59 AM

I upgraded the door speakers and it made a world of difference. Are rears even really necessary? The car is so small volume wise that the door and dash speakers fill the sound really well. With my new door speakers the sound is very clean, crisp and spatially correct.

Honestly in top end cars there are no rear speakers because SQ "sound quality" is setup for optimal performance. I own a civic and I have taken the rear speakers out so that way I have no rear fill as they call it. If you listen to it for a few days you will get use to it and it will definitely sound better than 4 channels. Think of it this way artist record there music in 2 channel format so the optimum way to listen to it is threw 2 channels. My setup is going to be my fronts and a rear sub that's all. After thinking about it and listening to it it sounds way better. So in a nut shell do not get rear speakers or worry about it.

I got Kappa 62.9i's in the doors. They sound nice. I now have my DNX7140 and I am waiting for all of the cable coverters to show up and camera then I am going to install.

I have zero stereo/speaker knowledge. Are those speakers plug and play or is it more involved?

If I may recommend a speaker set for your doors. The FOCAL K2 POWER 165 KRx2 6 3/4" speakers.
They are made woth the highest state of the art technology on the market today.
200w will sound like 400w cuz these speakers have the clearest highs n deepest
Rich sounding lows on the market. They do run steep at $1,100 minus install.
But these paired with the focal sub 300w will make your 370z sound like a concert.
It has a crossover as well so u can tune your sound to the type of music u like.
If u don't want to change ur head unit u can opt for an alpine digital sound processor.
But with a kick *** system like that. I would throw in a high end alpine or kenwood
Head unit. Also if the $1100 is too much? The have competitively good models at
$849 and $549. Also may I recommend alternate subs by jl audio and kenwood kfc. Both
Are shallow subs that sound like full subs in a box. Your car toys or crutchfield
Reps will know the exact model numbers. My recommendation won't give u the loudest
System. But u will have the clearest most impressive sound without having excess wiring
Or exposed equioment. Lastly. Alpine makes a great amp that's compact and will still
Power your speakers and sub with some extra useful features. Again the reps will know
Which one by model number when u tell them. The amp can displace up to 600w and up to 4 channels
You can control how much power u want to use and its bridgeable so its the only amp u need. The amp is $600. And invest in big gauge
Gold tip wiring. No sense in buyin all that stuff without passing the signal through optimum quality
