backup camera image flipped

HI,

I purchased on of the the cheapy backup camera's...

the image on it has flipped as of last week... any ideas? There is no setting for flipping the image on my HU ( kenwood 9960).

I have had the camera for over a year now so I am not sure if I should consider it gone bad and just change it or if there is a way to fix this.

Thanks,
Jay

With some of the camera there is a connection that is either made or broke to reverse the image. I would check the connections near the camera. It may be that the connection has worked loose. If it is one of the cameras where the image is permanently reversed and doesn't have an external wire to configure then the internal connection has probably worked loose.

I have the same head unit and the Kenwood CMOS300. I'm not sure if the setup will be the same, but I go into the R-CAM setup for adjusting the camera and there is a setting at the bottom of the screen that says something about "mirror image". I'm not sure if you're using a cheap camera if you have that ability.

no such connection on the outside of the camera for me.

do you know if the internal connection if fixable without destroying the camera?

Thanks,

Probably not as most are glued together, but difficult to say for sure because they all vary. Given the cost I think the best bet would be to just buy another one.

thought so.. but wanted to make sure that it wasnt something very obvious before i purchased a new one.
Thanks,

M head unit (Chinese) has a settings to mirror the image one way or the other. Still trying to hook my factory camera up to the aftermarket stereo. The dealer put the cam in with a base head unit. lol.... just gotta find the time to take the thing apart and find the wires. Nobody has done it yet that I have seen.. Looked all over. Check the settings in the head unit. If it is just an RCA connector you could also plug it in to a camcorder or something and test it also. Just a thought.

yup! but I want to blame the car wash for it...

this is the camera i used..
Color CMOS/CCD 420 TV Lines Car Rear View Camera for Nissan Livina - Tmart.com

Also i had 2 other camera's from ebay (for the PIRUS :p ) that did the same thing right after car washes.

Now I dont need to go to the car wash as I have the ability to hand wash it right outside and thats what I will be doing.

huh, that sucks. i guess you get wat you pay for, huh? :(

i'd try opening it up and see if you can get the water out. and seal it back together. at $17 who cares if it breaks while doing the work.

That makes sense because water probably got in and shorted/completed the non reverse image circuit selection.

If you can fix it and get it working again once you seal it back up try masking the lense and then hit it with 8-10 coats of plastidip. That should seal the outside perfectly and keep the water out. Plastidip is 5-6$ a can.

I agree with you.
