Dynamat outside of car?

I was under the car this past weekend, and noticed plenty of exposed metal. I'm going to begin doing all the sound deadening this weekend and was wondering how well dynamat might hold up under the car. Anyone ever try this? The more I can put on the better, but I don't want to waste the stuff by it peeling off the first time I drive in the rain. Thanks.

I doubt very seriously if it would hold up on the exterior. Heat, gravel, etc. would probably destroy it quickly. You're better off with a spray-on deadener.

I would use these stuff instead of dynamat. I do not think it would hold up as well.

Don't do that unless you can guarantee that you won't trap any moisture. Spray bedliners or undercoating would be better alternative since it conforms to the exposed metal and unlikely to create pockets where moisture can accumulate forming water puddles with no means for drainage.

Exterior Sound deadining

Look into Lizardskin available from Eastwood (Eastwood - Auto Body Repair Tools | MIG Welder | TIG Welder | Plasma Cutter | Auto Body Supplies & Accessories) or
Secondskin's Spectrum Sluge (www.secondskinauto.com).

Lizardskin is spray-on while Sprectrum sluge can be either spray or brushed on.

Both products are designed for exterior use to deaden noise.

the lizzard skin is a great product especially if used in conjuction with their heat skin as well. it reduced the heat on the tunnel that I could feel. a lift is the best way to go and be sure you have a compressor big enough to flow the amount of air you need to spray this stuff because it is thick.

i love the road noise in my Nismo.. I say bring it!

Yeah, the second skin spectrum or sludge is the one you want for that. Don't do the sheets under there, it's not what they are made for. I suspect it would work is you did a really good job cleaning, foil-taped around the edges, and drove in only nice weather.

I did Dynamat in the trunk area just this week. Good luck, take your time. It's easy.

I liked mine too, until I was about to install a several thousand dollar audio system. :icon17:

Play it louder!

Let me know how it works out though.. I am going to upgrade my sound system too.. I would think that the audio would def the road noise.

Lizard skin is a heat and sound dreading material you spray on. That would be the best and lightest. I am going to use it.

Che ck it here http://www.lizardskin.com/
