Putting a system together. HELP

Hey everyone. It took a bit, but I am really starting to hate the base stereo in this car. It breaks up far too easily and just very meh. I'm not a crazy audiofile or anything, but I like to listen to music loud once and a while.

So far I have only really decided on the HU:
Pioneer AVH-P3400BH DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Seems pretty decent. I was originally looking at the appradio2, but I am not sure how great it works in general. Being I have an andriod phone and I am always upgrading to the latest and greatest, I would hate to run into compatibility issues and regret the HU later on.

Speakers I am looking at:
Polk Audio db6501 6-1/2" component speaker system — also fit 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield.com

I think I heard many here praise those.

Here are some things I am not certain of:
- Amp. Not sure if I need one. I've heard many recommend it, but if I don't NEED one, I'd rather spend the money elsewhere
- Rear camera. I see this radio has the ability to do a rear camera. I have not seen many people add this feature, so I am wondering if there is a reason it hasn't been done and if it has, what was done :)

Im open to any and all suggestions.

If you can, you should really get an amp, you can get a good 2-channel amp for about $150 that will make it sound 150X better. Like most aftermarket component speakers, those are meant to handle a lot more than the HU can give (~22 watts rms).

A 150-200 watt 2-channel amp should be well matted to those speakers.

I took this advice from bigaudiofanat and it definitely paid off!!!

Those speakers would sound so much better with some power going to them. There are several threads about amps and subs in the rear as well as camera installs posted. I just posted a camera install to my HU in my journal today in conjuction with the Nissan camera/monitor in my mirror. Search and find some good advice and information.

The polk db's are happy either way. You can get away with running them off a head unit or a amp. However I recommend if your going to amp them, go up a model to the MM or dxi series.

Im wondering if it is a better idea to just get 4 way speakers instead of one with separate tweeters as well. I really feel like I am going to hate doing that install.

If you are referring to the coaxial speakers, no a separate tweeter higher up and completely separate from the woofer allows each to do its job better. A true 3 way setup will cost you a pretty penny. focal krx3 for instance.

Take a look at the JL HD500/3. Im running one currently in my car. Will Give you 75-100 RMS to the fronts each and 300 to the subwoofer. Ive ran much bigger systems in other cars, but this will work for a car like the Z. Am able to drown out the road noise less than half way up.

Well, for now, I ordered the HU, Speakers and kenwood self powered sub. Came out to a bit more than I was wanting to spend. So I really hope this ends up sounding much better than the horrible base system.

I'm looking at very much the same setup. Let us know how it sounds when you are done.
