Poorman's GoPro ($1 Mod)
Today while shopping at $1 store (Because I'm Poor) I came across this suction cup anti slip mat for cellphones... then a bright idea came to my mind.
I've always wanted a GoPro but wasn't sure if the pricetag was worth it, because it would be mostly a one time use gadget. I often do drag race with a group of friends and this is great to record their run. So I made this, with some small adjustments you can get a great recording angle!! Features of the PoorMan's GoPro: -720p HD recording and 5mp stills with iPhone 4, Audio recording. 1080p available with more advanced phones. -REAL TIME viewing and playback of your recordings -Firm grip allow video stability, while still maintaining rear view mirror function -Easy 1-Step to install and remove, no tools required. -Bonus: Doubles as GPS, portable gaming system, etc. Cons: -Only compatible with flat backs cellphones -Only in-cabin record allowed at the time, a PoorMans Gopro v2 is under development which retains all the functionality of the v1 plus exterior video recording. Only purple heart shape was available at the time. :icon14: But I think it is quite cute http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6384/img0214l.jpg http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/7...2033100163.jpg Still Taken going at 30mph http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/7444/img0211tw.jpg Video Footage. In case you're wondering I have stock I/E |
Good mod! +1

going off your idea, you could even just use a couple elastic bands...

Excellent mod. Way easier than putting a metal rod behind your headrest.

LOL, great for street driving....maybe. But to others, please don't attempt this at a track. Hopefully Tech would not pass this anyway.

And yet a nother application for iphone.

lolz. Great idea, but a suction mount isn't all that expensive.
Just Mobile Xtand Go for iPhone 4 / 4S (White) ST-169W B&H Photo Intova Suction Cup Mount SCM B&H Photo Video |
...best way is to make the MightyBobo version of the camera mount attached to the headrest posts, run a 1/4" 20 count bolt up through bottom, attach a $10 tripod mount to that, and attach a $6 iphone grip type case that has a tripod mount thread on the bottom. not as cheap as your version, but much better imho
